  1. I have the Gamer version.
  2. After having very frequent lock-ups and having to reset my machine since the last patch, I finally got error messages pointing to the C++ runtime libraries. Error message sequence: Memory Access Violation Error C++ Runtime Library Error Click ok on both and the game shut down to desktop. At least I did not have to cold boot it, eh? ALL drivers up to date. (After 7+ years of this game, I know the drill) Mem Tests are good. Dx Diag Passed. I supect there are also a few sound bugs too.
  3. No question there, especially since the 8800 performs slightly better than it does. What started my build was the videa card. I got it cheap and needed a PCI-E system to put it in. I do however, have a great confidence that once CRS finishes the new Engines, the hardware requirements will be less than they are now in order to get decent performance. Once they start fleshing out all the goodies that will be possible, then we will know better what is needed.
  4. I looked at those, but honestly, having all the keys progammable and the angle of the left hand 'panel' makes the Merc very comfortable for long sessions. I have abused mine over the past 4 years and it has held up quite well. Sooo if you need illuminated keys: http://www.ideazon.com/us/products/mercstealth.asp
  5. THe video card is fine. Fill rate is more than adequate and better than they require. With a fill rate of 20.8 billion/sec, you certainly are not suggesting that it is not more than enough for the game, are you? Honestly, why buy a ferrari to drive in downtown NYC traffic? Oh, and to be fair, I just finished rebuiling my system (again) today and now am getting 60-80 fps in heavy populations. Only two programs on this machine, AAO and WWIIOL. I use another system for all my other games: P4 3.2 GHZ with a GF 7800GS OC that is more than adequate for them, and I get great frames without rebuilding (have not had to rebuild that system since i first put it together).
  6. I'm running a Core 2 Quad, 4GB DDR3 RAM, with a 9600GT with 1GB DDR3 on it. I get about the same frame rates using med settings in heavy battles. Until this game cleans up the code and optimizes for CURRENT hardware specifications, you are doing nothing but overpowering to gain minimal performance that is accurately described as throttled by the game code. I would not be surprised that if the game were coded with todays hardware in mind, we could run it on a P4 2.6 GHz single core processor with a low end video card and get the same perfomance results we have with higher end machines. Let's face it, there is not much video detail in the game yet the video requirements are rediculously high. I suspect they are as high to offload as much work from the CPU as possible. However, because the game is currently inefficient at the task, the decision to upgrade a video card comes down to 'what else are you going to use the PC for?'. It is my hope that the new engine will drastically reduce the hardware requirements and place them more in line with 'reality'. Oh, and a reality check. Normally, all this talk about bottle necks in CPU and FSB is good chatter, but for WWIIOL, it is pure bunk. The only choke point related to the game is the outdated code and engines. Until these are rewritten, no affordable amount of PC power will run the game satisfactorily.
  7. I have used it for over 4 years. I love it for gaming. For regualr PC use no so much, but for gaming, it simply cannot be beat.
  8. Makes me feel better. Just built a monster PC to see if I can finally run the game with decent FPS (who woulda thunk a 3.2GHz processor was not enough?). When Playgate errored out, I about shat thinking the new PC was incompatible! LOL
  9. Yep It was only a few bucks more.
  10. No question the 8800GT is a better card, especially with 112 streams vs the 9600GTs 64 streams. I could not beat the price - $80 unopened box. So I will be happy with it. The card was actually what started this all. I needed a PCI-E board to run it.
  11. The Quad will be put to other use aside from gaming. The RAM is rated 6-6-6-18, kind of middle ground I think. Do agree with you on that area, however. OC is on the list when I assemble the rig, along with water cooling. I did indeed order the Corsair 750TX PS. Knew this animal would get hungry. As for the video, I opted for the 9600GT for the OC-ability. When done, it will perform as good as the 8800GT with twice the RAM and half the cost.
  12. With Quad Core 2.6 GHz, 1+ GHz FSB and 1 GB of DDR3 Video Memory, I hope it will be minimal... I rekon I better keep my RMA sheet handy just in case.
  13. So.... I have been having difficulty running the game at decent settings. My current PC is more than adequate, so I will move it over to the business. Will I have any trouble with this rig? 14. QFT cuz well, it is true.
  15. Fixed. I replaced ATI HD 2600 with nVidia 8800 GT OC and no issues. Once again, nVidia proves superior to AwfulTI. Game runs flawlessly under Vista now.
