  3. I have settled on an initial list for the Con, but last year a late entry bumped into the list and won Best Of The Best! Time to get em shot and posted.
  4. I seem to recall something about Mac Arthur, Korea and the Chinese not possibly attacking in numbers and effectively.....
  5. Gorgeous movies Kosty, anyway you can clean up that audio feedback?
  6. Charles Schepens NAHANT, Mass. (AP) - Charles Schepens, a leader in the French resistance during World War II who later became a pioneer in retina surgery, died March 28 after suffering a stroke, his son said. He was 94. The covert role played by Schepens, of Nahant, while working with the resistance was so successful he fooled both the ****s and his French neighbors. Schepens worked under the guise of a lumber mill operator named Jacques Perot in the French town of Mendive, using the mill's tramway to smuggle people and documents over the mountains. The Germans learned about the operation, and Schepens was forced to abandon it. After the war, Schepens returned to a career in ophthalmology and is considered the father of modern retina surgery. He developed instruments that helped doctors more easily diagnose retina problems and repair them. His work is credited with improving the success rate for surgical retina reattachment from about 40 percent to more than 90 percent during his career, The Boston Globe reported. "He was quite a man. He accomplished a lot on his life," said his son, Luc Schepens. On March 21, a few days before his stroke, the consul general of France presented Schepens with the French Legion of Honor award for smuggling more than 100 people from France into Spain during the war.
  7. All Rommel apologists and explainers got it wrong. Yes Kesselring was in charge, but Rommel went straight to Hitler and got the air and other assets earmarked for Malta sent to him for the big push, and Kesselring due to the politics of Germany needing their Rommel hero could not overrule him. Then of course you have the whole Russian front eating into any reserves and suddenly there was no more time for Malta. Game over for the Afrika Korps. Kesselring also ordered him to pull up and not burn the supply, but Rommel went haring off anyway. No, Rommel's failings were of his own making, brilliant divisional commander though he may have been.
  8. And so the Rommel and Patton cults roll on. Amazing. Rommel is a loser IMO simply because he couldn't be bothered to assure his supply lines re: Malta but had to hare off on his grand conquer Egypt schema. He did not see to his logistics and that was the margin of victory, thus rendering his improvisational achievements moot. Most of my list is already here, but I'll put them together. Scipio. Belisarius. The Khans. Winfield Scott. Alexander.
  9. US military is listed between 300K and 400K in the two books closest to my PC. They don't break down the numbers of dead per Theater. However given that 65K+ of that 400K figure would be US strategic bombing deaths on Germany alone, I would say the majority of US losses were against the Germans, I'd call it 75%.
  10. Slith, Wiki says 415K American, it's in the ball park, 380K to 400K +.
  11. Been reading an excellent book on Fighters, and was surprised to learn that the F-22 will NOT be the first production supercruising plane (supercruise defined as maintaining Mach 1+ speed without afterburners). The amazing one to me is the British Lightning (the jet) in 1954. Here is the wikipedia list- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercruise It is apparently missing two others, the SU-15 Flagon and the B-58 Hustler. should have known the Concorde and Tupolev knock-off was.
  12. Awww, you guys were forgetting the Pucara- http://www.combataircraft.com/aircraft/fia58.aspx
  13. I've always said that air forces should look to anime makers for next-gen avionics.
  14. My cutoff for the Con contest is May 12, after which I will be burning the volume 3 Best of, along with some Volume 1 and 2 to give away.
  15. Hey Mad, you posted about the WIGs?
  16. Escaz, you are breaking my machine with these monster vids! Haven't you heard of Divx? Dear Gawd man!
  17. I review all videos of any vintage every year. I am definitely putting in a little SmackD for instance, useful to be reminded where the game was and the man had a sense of humor. Haven't decided on yours yet, a lot of people wouldn't like it due to the rap song, but for me it is a selling point as it's got a different feel to it (watching 100 rock 'n roll lookatmyuberl33t plane skillz guncams will make you crave anything different). It's on the Very Short List. A big issue is that song at the end, I have to make sure it's not a [EDIT] Snotzy song.
  18. Blownup, no go here or at AHQ.

  21. The maker of the Best of the Best for Volume 3 will get the full 3 CD set if they show at the con. The winner will be announced then.
  22. We have a new chasseur, Rumpnugt. No we don't choose these names. Yes he kicks ***.
  23. Right click on some of those sites and you get to save the HTML link. Which I respect, their business model is uploaded contact drives eyeballs to see the ad links and not downloading, but does me little good in sharing them on CDs.
  24. Guys posting at Youtube and the like, I need downloadable files, not a viewing URL. I would really like to consider more vids for the Con but a bunch of links isn't the same as having the vids in playable format. Filefront seems to be functional for instance.
