  1. I get it too. I believe it's the same issue as guages flickering on nvidia video cards, something to do with the Z buffer on nvidia cards. I *think* the nvidia cards have a 24-bit z-buffer, while ATI cards have a 32-bit one. Something like that. For lots of technical reasons, this means we get flickering because of the large visual distance and the 24-bit Z buffer isn't really large enough for it.
  2. I've been doing some poking around, and I can get this : Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86Ghz 2MB cache 1066mhz FSB Memory: 1.0GB DDR2 533mhz Hard Disk Drive: 200GB S-ATA2 3.0Gb/s 8MB buffer Second Hard Disk Drive: None Optical Drive: 16x Double-Layer DVD+/-RW Second Optical Drive: None Graphics card: NVidia GeForce 7600GT PCI-E 256MB DDR3 TV/DVI Floppy Disk Drive: None Operating System: None Sound Card: Audigy Soundblaster 7.1 24-bit £456.00 OR this : Processor: AMD64 Athlon X2 4200+ 1Mb cache Memory: 1GB DDR 400mhz Hard Disk Drive: 300GB S-ATA2 3.0Gb/s 16MB buffer Second Hard Disk Drive: None Optical Drive: 16x Double-Layer DVD+/-RW Second Optical Drive: None Graphics card: NVidia GeForce 7600GT PCI-E 256MB DDR3 TV/DVI Floppy Disk Drive: None Operating System: None Sound Card: Audigy Soundblaster 4 7.1 Internet and Networking: Onboard 10/100 network card (Built-in) £492.00 Operating System is no problem, as I have a retail XP which can be transferred. Obviously the AMD one has a bigger hard-drive, but the smaller disk in the Intel one would not be a problem, I'd never fill it anyway! Soooo, which is the better system, the Intel one or the AMD one?
  3. That looks like a good deal xanthus. Unfortunately I would have to add 17.5% VAT, not sure if there would be any import duty. Lemme see if I can price that up on www.dabs.com The total is £545.43 with the closest components that I can find on dabbs.com Stupid VAT
  4. Hey all, My computer which I use for gaming (when I get the time) has finally decided to die on me. It was blue-screening all over the place, locking up in the BIOS, working for a bit then dying again. I'm pretty sure its the system board thats failing. Anyways, I'm shopping around for a new PC, and found this, what kind of FPS can I expect do you think? Bear in mind that I've not been keeping up on whats hot and whats not in the computer world Motherboard : ASUS A8V-VM Processor: AMD64 Athlon 3500+ Socket-939 Venice Memory: 1GB DDR 400mhz Hard Disk Drive: 200GB S-ATA2 3.0Gb/s 8MB buffer Optical Drive: 16x Double-Layer DVD+/-RW Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 7300GS 512MB PCI-E TV/DVI Sound Card: Onboard Sound Internet and Networking: Onboard 10/100 network card (Built-in) Peripherals: Keyboard, mouse and speakers That little lot would set me back £320.00 which seems like a really good deal, TOO good in that it would run like a slug in ww2ol which, while I haven't played in about 6 months am sorely tempted to get back into
  5. War stories is there for a reason....
