  1. Sorry, but have to know. 2 different monitor cables as well? Also, are you able to test your 5850's on a spare computer?
  2. Sounds stupid but the one thing you have moved every time you made a change was the monitor cable. When you say no video, do you mean the monitor is completely blank at all times? Even during boot?
  3. Latest graph from tomshardware. Good info if you're considering an upgrade. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-460-radeon-hd-5570-gaming,2697-7.html "Here is a resource to help you judge if a card is a good buy or not. The graphics card hierarchy chart groups graphics cards with similar overall performance levels into tiers. The top tier contains the highest-performing cards available and performance decreases as you go down the tiers from there. You can use this hierarchy to compare the pricing between two cards, to see which one is a better deal, and also to determine if an upgrade is worthwhile. I don’t recommend upgrading your graphics card unless the replacement card is at least three tiers higher. Otherwise, the upgrade is somewhat parallel and you may not notice a worthwhile difference in performance."
  4. Brilliant! Deserves a sticky (with the vet edits included). Should be in the wiki too
  5. V7.17.17 Found this update under utilities for your mboard on the asus site. This is what they list for Win7 32 or 64bit. However, asus description of os support for this update only goes to vista64. I used the global download link. Downloaded fine but no readme file was included (hate that). Checked forums on asus site and seems like there are support issues regarding your mboard and windows 7. Some suggest using nvidea site for chipset drivers as being better option with this board.
  6. Which version of windows 7? 32bit or 64bit? You should be able to search your mboard on this page http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
  7. Try this: control panel devices and printers add a device With the NIC removed this should try to find your onboard network.
  8. Asus should have the latest drivers available for you board. That's where I would start. Also, did you remove the NIC before you tried your onboard network?
  9. I always start with tomshardware builds and work my way down or up from there. Here is their June 2010 $2K build article with comments. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/overclock-cpu-gpu,2643.html I'm not telling you to build this one, just use it for reference as you plan your build. GL
  10. forgot. That's an MSI mboard
  11. Sorry for the big pics. Look at the green cylindrical thingys These are failing (bulging/leaking).
  12. This is a little old but still valid. You didn't say if it was a new build or not but you might have him follow this checklist. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-261145_13_0.html
  13. Have him try each stick of ram separately. Maybe one is bad. Also, check for blown caps on the mboard.
  14. I have almost zero experience with teamspeak. I installed TS2 and pointed it at the axis server. I see multiple channels some appear to be active (names shown with radio button). I chose a name and password (game name). I clicked on a few channels with people in them but I can't hear any conversation and don't see myself listed either. What did I miss? I know there must be another step otherwise your opponent could just log into your teamspeak channel and listen in. Thanks
  15. Thanks. I'll check it out.
  16. Just an FYI Very simple fix to my problem. Sometime during an upgrade of Ubuntu 9 and also a feature of Ubuntu 10, leaving the audio output to analog stereo stopped working. All I needed to do was select something other than stereo. I used 5.1 and all is fine now.
  17. Very strange. Neither of these works with onboard sound (haven't tried a sound card yet, no hurry for now). Both work fine with XP32 and Win7-64. GA-G31-ES2L and P55A-UD3
  18. Thanks for the link. I don't think that is my problem. I have not installed Wine yet. I'm sure there must be a simple fix but I haven't chased it down yet. I won't need sound until BE can play on Ubuntu. Sound used to work on v9 but stopped after one of the updates ran. Didn't pay it much attention since 10 was due out soon but now that 10 doesn't work either (and on a completely different computer) I will have to post on the ubuntu forums.
  19. If both drives are from the same manufacturer, you may be able to image one to the other using a free utility from the manufacturer website. Worth a try if you don't want to buy Ghost.
  20. At least it is playable now. The driver issue might resolve itself a few versions down the road. The primary driver differences between my system (no need for XP mode) and yours are: motherboard drivers and 5750 vs 5970 drivers. Please post some updates if you get it running without using compatibility mode. I'm really curious what the ultimate solution will be. You may want to send a note to the mboard manufacturer describing what you've done so far to resolve the problem.
