  1. Xoom and other Rats. First thanks for getting the game heading in the right direction. I know it's been a challenge. Now, to business. I really like the idea of integrated comms. Our experience in 2nd Rangers since Steam has been very frustrating in dealing with noobs. We have a semi-standard spiel we type in squad chat or PM to tell them right away to get on Discord. 80% never respond in any way. 10% will make an effort to get on Discord, but we have to hold their hands and it ends up failing. 5% get on Discord and we find them to be......shall we say, unsuitable for our squad? Leaving us with pretty much one guy new to the squad since Steam, who's been a really great addition. The point of all this is integrated comms will alleviate a lot of that problem since we should be able to get two-way voice comms from the start. But integrated comms carries some different issues for us. I understand there will a squad channel and a mission channel, along with others. The mission channel is the one that scares me. I'm afraid we're going to have a never-ending string of noobs or of a**holes jumping on the mission channel and causing mass confusion. The #1 solution to this is squad only missions. I know it's been suggested many times and you guys can't/won't do it. OK. The #2 solution then becomes an absolute must: in-game overlay. Since you switched us to Discord, my overlay has worked about half the time. Since Discord did an update about a month ago I have not had an overlay. Discord's response to my ticket on the issue was to tell me this game is not white-listed, so have a nice life. (That last part was my interpretation; Discord was actually very professional.) So I've given up on having an overlay. I know the voices of my squaddies, but when we have non-squaddies join us it becomes very difficult to manage the game. Please tell me there will be an overlay included with integrated comms. And if there will be no overlay, will there be a way to turn off comms?
  2. Thanks for that tip; we'll definitely use it. But I can't check that myself without leaving the mission. And I'd like to be able to run an FMS out on my own while my squaddies do other things. Any way for ME to check?
  3. I'm all for the snow. First because I love the change of pace and second because it's real. Battle of the Ardennes much? I would like to see the map and the mini-map stay normal though. I mean, if you're issued a map to hold in your hot little hands, it doesn't turn white when it snows outside.
  4. Great info, guys. Let me develop it a little more. I'm ingame now and looking at my theater map. Popping over to the webmap, it shows Schilde having links to Antwerp and Lier. But the ingame theater map shows Schilde having only one blue line running north to Roosendaal, which then has a blue line back south to Kalmthout. So what the heck are the blue lines in the theater map if they're not the "links"?
  5. OK, I've had it with the whole thing of driving a truck out and waiting through the FMS timer only to be told there is no freakin link between my town and the target or some such. I've been playing this game for years and I'm almost max ranked, but I still don't understand the whole link thing. Somebody please give me the noob tutorial on links. What the &*^^$%#E is a link? How can I look at the theater map and determine if I can set an FMS against a certain FB without having to wait until the end of the timer?
  6. Agree completely. BUT.....our 2nd Rangers squad got all geared up for the expected inrush of noobs when Steam went active. We set up a forum with all kinds of training material. Pictures, maps, videos, acronym lists, the whole nine yards. We talked and planned about how we would handle the wave of greenies. Priority #1 was to get them talking on Discord since we knew we couldn't effectively control or train them using squad chat through the keyboard. But that's where it broke down. We tried and tried and tried to get them on Discord, with about a 5% success rate. Most never replied in any way: squad chat, PM, nothing! I even had one noob tell me there was no way he would go out and download a third-party software like Discord for a "crappy" game like this. At this point, we've become a bit callous. We throw a greeting out there when a noob shows up and expect nothing, which is what we usually get. I think those of us who have been around the game for a while recognize there are features that keep us coming back. For me it's the team aspect of squad-play and the large-scale, persistent nature of the map. But those very features take some time to understand and appreciate. I have seen a huge number of noobs be auto-recruited to the squad and 10 minutes later I see "so-and-so has left your supervision by exiting the game", never to be seen again. 10 minutes? They want to see blood, gore and pink mist and they're not getting it. I don't have any silver bullets for this issue, but make no mistake it is an issue. A few years ago, when CRS had the host squad thing going, a designated trainer could "Grab" a greenie and control all his chat, etc. I think that would go a long way in keeping some of these greenies around long enough for them to at least understand the difference between an AB and an ATG.
  7. Come join us, Baer. We are typically on in the late-afternoons, like 3:00-6:00 server time. Love to have you join us.
  8. Since the most recent patch, I have been unable to get my Discord overlay to appear on my game screen. It worked fine before, although I did have to always go back to Discord after loading the game and uncheck and re-check the WWIIOnline overlay box. I'm talking every session I had to do that, but it would always pop up when I went back over to the game. Now nothing works. I've uninstalled both the game and Discord and re-installed both. I run both as administrator. I have unchecked and re-checked every possible toggle box in Discord and in every sequence I can think of with no joy. Anybody have any ideas?

  10. Come on board with 2nd Rangers and make a real difference in the game. Plus have fun and quickly learn how to move around the map and kill the hated Axis! Think you have what it takes? Join the Rangers and find out.
  11. I was trying to re-position my vehicle status window on my screen. So I grabbed it using Alt-mouse and it immediately disappeared. Keymap says ' will toggle it off and on, but I get nothing. I've tried re-mapping to a different key with no results. Any ideas?
  12. Zeke, you da man! Fixed it immediately. Thanks.
  13. I keep my progress bar for capping in the lower middle of my screen, right above the chat window. That way I can see the progress without having to move my eyes off the door where you people are all trying to come in and kill me. So the other day I look down and it's back over in the right bottom corner. I clicked alt and used my mouse to grab it and move it back where I want it. The moment I clicked on it, the dang thing disappeared. I can't find it anywhere. The Y key makes all onscreen graphics toggle off and on, but no progress bar. A squaddie suggested changing resolution, rebooting, etc., none of which worked. Any ideas?
