  1. Huh? Excuse me? You can play this game on Satelite?! I live in the boonies and I'm on dialup, but I would LOVE to switch to sat if it would work. I thought latency issues were a problem on sat.
  2. Hi Jammy, Is there any documentation on what sort of host things can be manipulated by an event manager running an event? I'm curious about the tools for event managment - can you turn on and off FBs? can you force group spawning? reset ranks? use the buzzard? that kind of stuff. Trout
  3. WIll there be rules that require level bombing only? (there should be)
  4. Anybody gonna film this for U-Tube? Maybe a few camera guys and edit it all together? Just remember to turn icons off! Trout
  5. I think it is too ambitious. Its hard to find enough people willing to fly that distance. You should work up to a scenario like this with somthing more simple and fun. How about a 1940 or 41 cross channel bombing raid from England to France & belgium? 20 level bombers, 10 escorts and a few interceptors? You could stage a 2 wave attack where the dudes who get shot down come back 1 hour later for the second wave? Or you could do a 111 german BoB raid. This format is easily scaleable by adding more planes, and it would simulate any number of smaller raids that actually did happen in 40 and 41. Trout
  6. Are you sure Merlin? I though Sat was no good for online gaming?
  7. Thanks for all the help guys - here is what the service provider said (ie: online gaming is not a problem). I'll check them out. ------------------- All is good with shooter games for this service, as long as you can get it. The stream is not that wide so I can't see you going over limits. Let us know, Larry
  8. punt Ok, satellite is not an option - any ideas about this part? "Air time access for the Residential service starts from $49.99 a month, no long term contract. Typical speeds for this service is 1.0Mbs upload and 1.0Mbs download, with a monthly data transfer of 10GB throughput." trout
  9. Ok, here is an email response I got from an ISP who serves my rural area. Does this look good? I'm not worried about the cost, I'm worried about the, "monthly data transfer of 10GB throughput", as I'm not sure what it means (is it a cap on data transfer that would limit how much I can play WW20?) any help appreciated Trout Greetings from Broadband Ontario Incorporated: You are in luck; two possible solutions exist over and beyond dial-up for your location. Option 1: Regarding your inquiry for high speed internet access, this can be achieved using Two Way Fixed Wireless Service which does not use a telephone line to connect to the internet, all connections are done through a small transceiver which is mounted externally to your premises. Pricing for the Residential service is set at $299.99 (assuming you do not need a tower to clear trees or hills) which includes the equipment and professional installation. Latency typically < 50ms. Air time access for the Residential service starts from $49.99 a month, no long term contract. Typical speeds for this service is 1.0Mbs upload and 1.0Mbs download, with a monthly data transfer of 10GB throughput. In order to qualify for this service we need to perform a free site survey and we will do so ONLY IF YOU RESPOND to this E-mail. Option 2: Regarding your inquiry for high speed internet access, this can be achieved using our Two Way Satellite service which does not use a telephone line to connect to the internet, all connections are done through the satellite dish which is mounted to your premises. Pricing for the Residential dish and service is set at $1300 which includes the equipment and professional installation (which must be done as regulated by Industry Canada and the FCC). Air time access for the Residential two way satellite service starts from $69 a month. Typical speeds for this service is 20-60Kbs upload and 300-500Kbs download, with a daily data transfer of 169MB throughput. If we can be of further assistance please contact our office or visit us on line at www.broadbandontario.com.
  10. Hey, can sombody tell me if this service would allow me to play WW20? I live in the country and I'm sick of dialup: http://www.galaxybroadband.ca/Galaxy_broadband_services_FAQs.html Here is the part of their FAQ that concerns me: Q: What is transmission latency? A: Latency refers to the time it takes for signals to travel to and from the satellite. This typically creates a sub-second lag. For this reason, HUGHESNET may not be ideal for playing some "twitch-games" and time-sensitive "online" trading.
  11. thanks Caber I'll run it. My machine SAYS I'm connecting at either 42,000 or 45,000 baud, but that should still be ok (if I have a solid connection that is). I'll need to find out if anything else other than my connection can cause a CTHL.
  12. I"ve been getting CTHLs real bad lately, I may have to unsub. I'm on dialup and connecting at 45,000 - my vis limit is set to low. Is there some way I can tell if the problem is related to my network, or related to my machine? Can graphics or sound cause a CTHL?
  13. I tried to play last night and could not. I logged in 3 times and had pings around 800 (im on dialup) and packet loss of 90%. THen I got a connection with a ping of 250 (which is fine), but again, packet loss of ~90%. I'll try again tonight and hope its net related.
  14. I accidentally deleted the game on my HD and I'm on dialup (this will be a 20 hour DL). Does anyone know if the server has that feature that allows for DLing in stages? I'd like to DL it over a few nights. Trout
  15. Just tired this last night....so far....no CTHL!
