  3. For those that live close to Bovington, they are more than willing to accept volunteers during the season. Last easter i spent a week down there working in the workshop and supervising the "tank ride". No pay, but free grub, travelling expenses, free access to the museum and also access to the storage hangers that are not normally open to the public. It was also a bit of a trip down memory lane for me because I was posted at Bovington for a while whilst serving as an armoured vehicle driver in the army.
  4. Excellent post Oopsdead, but I'm afraid I must disagree in certain areas; You talk of Sealion as though it were a long term plan, Germany was all but ready to go in 1940, but only if the conditions were right, ie air superiority! If, as already has been mentioned I think, the LW had destroyed the RAF then Germany may well have tried an immediate seaborne invasion. All this would have happened to quickly for the political climate to change sufficiently in the US to ensure physical involvement. IMHO, and i know it is over simplified but, if the air war over Britain had been lost in 1940 then there is every possibility that Germany would have been engaged soley with Russia, America soley with Japan, with the result that maybe the cold war of the 50's, 60's and 70's would have existed between Germany and the USA! God only knows what the outcome of that would have been!
  5. But that's the catch 22 Dietl, the aggressor (talking WW11 here) was some foriegn a*** wiping dictator we defo never voted for! One thing that maybe needs to be put into context here is that, during 1940/41/42 the only way that Britain could visibly fight back was via bombing. It was supported by the majority of the population and was considered worth the casualties. My Dad was bombed out of his home in East London, the only "good" news they got during the early years of the war was the number of bombers sent over to germany, they felt they were fighting back etc. Don't forget that there was a genuine belief that an invasion was immenent and anything that could be done to deter it was essential.
  6. If that was an apology guys, it was a bit lame!
  7. He's emailed both Bable and Krieger, no response yet???????
  8. bump This player is still having the same problem!
  9. mmmmmm.........bit worrying that most are talking about grandparents, but anyway..... My Father was an evacuee from London at the start of the war, then joined the RAF as aircrew in '44, they realised they wouldn't need all these bods trained up so he eventually ended up driving RAF armoured cars in Palestine. Two of my wifes uncles were made pow's at Arnhem, a third was injured in north africa and a fourth was killed serving as a Gunner/Wireless Op on a Hampden in the RAF in 1940. Back to Grandpa's, one was severly gased in wwi and was therefore exempt during wwii, the other served in the National Fire Service. Thinking out loud,....... an uncle on my fathers side was in RAF, my Fathers ex business partner was a spitfire pilot, as was my Dads brother in law. erm, Father in law was in the Navy during the latter part of the war, as was his brother, my best mates dad was on motor torpedoe boats, and ended up clearing mines prior to D Day, my best mates wifes dad won medals for his antics as a navy diver.........................................................................
  10. OOOpppps another day, another crash, afraid it's still happening CRS! File version: 1, 19, 4, 255 Date and time: 7/31/2005 2:29:25 WWIIOL aborted via improper means
  11. Well Rat Chaps, It would appear that the latest patch is the business as far as my problem was concerned. Ok it's only been one night, but I had none of the stttttttttttttttttttuuter, runtime probs I had been experiencing. I know it's a bit too early to tell if it is fixed, but on tonights performance well done all at CRS, this is now a game I can once again enjoy, thanks! .......now all i need to know is how to get good at it!!!!!!!!!
  12. Please help, this is driving me nuts! Has only really become a problem since the beginning of this campaign. It usually seems to happen just as I spawn into the game, I see a partially constructed landscape, eg no trees, parts of veh spawn missing etc, the view freezes for about 3 seconds, I then get a half second refresh, it freezes again and so on. I can't exit, cntl/alt/delete or anything, just have to wait 3 or 4 minutes for it to crash and display C++ Runtime Library Error. I can see from the Windows Task Manager that the cpu has been maxed out at 100% during this time. To start with this happened occasionally, then regularly, but tonight it was happening almost every time i tried to spawn in. I have already deleted all previous wwiiol files and reinstalled the game, and it is set to run in nt compatibility mode. Any and all suggestions gratefully received because this is ruining the game at the moment. Top of DxDiag report only, was just presented with this when I tried to post full report!!!!!!!!! 13. Gilmour, I'm not a computer whiz, but your hunch seems to fit my CTHL symptoms! Spawn in, screen locks but i can see a partially constructed landscape, about every 3 seconds I get an approx half second refreshed view, still partial, then lock again. This three second stutter goes on for a while then I loose connection. When I come back to desktop I can see that the cpu usage has been 100% whilst all this was going on.
