Please post Mac bugs here

Post bugs here including your mac specs.

Note that there are no real speed improvements yet. My performance has not changed at all. There are still some in progress but not in this version.

Just to keep from repeating myself like a cracked vinyl record -

On Intel macs especially, your FPS under OSX will not be very good. The problem is in the code and it's not that easy to fix. It's not like the rats don't know it's a big problem. There are 2 solutions coming:

(1) Jaeger (Sebastian is his real name) is working on opengl optimizations for the game, primarily storing stuff (like buildings) on the video card instead of recalculating it every frame and sending it to the video card. These will make it in 1.27 if they pass testing in time for 1.27 (beta next week sometime I think). This will bypass much of the problem and should make a major improvement.

(2) New game engine. The current creaky engine is beyond old (try 8 years +) but its old age is most visible on OSX and especially on the newer Intel macs. The new engine is brand new, modern, and uses all the goodies that other modern engines use. But there are only like 1.5 programmers available to work on it, so it's a big job. The more stuff the current version needs the slower the new engine gets done. Expect 2.0 by year end or so assuming RickB doesn't keel over.

So for now on Intel boxes, be patient and run (ewww) Windows under Bootcamp.

If you are running a G5 (like my dual 2.0 G5) you are also being affected. If you can get an X800 ATI or equivalent you will be in good shape for the future. The two things listed above will make a lot of difference for us too.

Once I can actually try Jaegers stuff I will report on how much of a difference it's making.

That is all ..... that is all .... that is all ......

An "anti bug" is that my frame-rates away from all others has gone up. Flying I am getting 37-40 fps where 1.26 was more 28-32. But in combat it's exactly as it used to be.

Mine is good too away from people. It's the inf + towns that's the killer. I've seen 80fps flying but fly over a battle town and you might get 3fps.

MY biggest Glitch is the fact that I DO NOT see any smoke, either from my mortar, or smoke grenades. WIERD. Mortar HE rounds are fine. Help Plz.

Hmm pc folks have reported this too, though not many. What Mac model / video card model do you have?

Interesting bug (BLOO acknowledged in chat)

If you are mac user and area chat with people who aren't in your mission, they won't hear what you say.

I noticed a "You have to be spawned in mission to area chat" warning while I am in mission and running.

To test: Spawn in a AB, find a guy who isn't in your mission (different colour nick) and area chat to him/her asking if it works.

BTW a chat bug was fixed yesterday on the server and UMSs and smoke from mortors should now be visible for everyone.

Ok, the smoke problem is on and off. But when it is ON i have no smoke from either MORTAR OR SMOKE GRENADE. Wierd.

Also,

I cannot "chat". It tells me I must be deployed on a mission to chat, which I am.

Also,

Would not let me make marks or approve as leader.

G5 Tower

Dual 2gig, 1.5 gig ram, Radeon 9800 Pro.

Do you still have the no smoke bug today, supposedly it was fixed on the server side?

The area chart may be a different issue.

EDIT: never mind, oliver is still tying to fix this, it's all one bug apparently on the server side, has nothing to do with mac or pc

Post the relevant section here. Usually the section that starts like this is enough:

Thread # Crashed:

Also post your mac model/vid card/ram and maybe a note on what you or the game was doing when it died.

That CPU is way too slow, it's amazing you can play at all. You might try downloading the ATI Displays app from ati and setting everything to best performance. Even then its a miracle you can play anywhere but fbs.

I'll check out the cmd-tab issue.

The first CTD I had with 1.27.0 didn't create a log.

This CTD happened at Metz while in a 232 turning the turret.

This CTD happened running around in Lux as a rifleman.

System is a dual 2GHz G5, 3GB ram, ATI X800 retail card running at 1920x1200.

The other couple crashes I've had with 1.27.0 happened after an hour or so of playtime, this one happened after only about 5 minutes.

I'm using a MB Pro 2.33 with 2Gb. An external monitor is my main screen. Lately, I've been getting "network connection" lost issues with the game. Which then causes the game to quit or freeze (audio still going).

Was considering downloading a full 1.27 and re install.

Any suggestions?

Network connection means your connection to the game servers is being lost. If this happened in the evenings, it might be the flakiness of the game servers which Oliver is working on; other people have reported it during these periods as well. It could also be your ISP or some router between you and playnet that is having the occasional hiccup. Are you using netcode2 (in game settings)?

This is not an isolated problem at all it seems.

I KEEP crashing. Never had this before. Either it says network error, or nothing at all, but I have not been able to play more thatn a few minutes today 9/2 at all. Very very frustrating.

PLEASE  ADVISE.

g5 dual 2 gig - 1.5 g ram - 10.4.9.2 OS Radeon 9800 pro

UPDATE: Game has become unplayable and unstable. Will deploy for at best a few minutes and then FREEZE and CRASH. Program quits. Had the smoke/ chat issues. Smoke might still be a problem. But since the "fix" was added to these problems I keep crashing. Nothing has changed on my setup.
