you should remove the smaler chip of ram so your pc can run in dual channel mode.

your system runs as fast as its smallest chip size.

get rid of the 256 chip mate.

see if your ram slots are colour coded and or check your mobo manual to see which slots are dual channel and which isnt, only use the dual channel slots.

i would only use the 3rd slot or ram if it was a 1gb chip that perfectly matched the first 2.

(if i remove the 3rd chip of ram from my system i get massive FPS increase due to the system now running in ddr 400 mode and not ddr 333, but at the cost of stability and a much more hungry swap file.)

often i log out of game and notice Norton has done a full system scan, and i didnt even notice it ingame.

oooh i should update this, replacement came in May, it was built on a budget (about 2/3s what I would consider needed for a decent system):

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2,67Ghz

  • J&W P35 Mobo (only piece im not 100% happy with, i wanted an Abit but it was part of a bundle with cpu and memory)

  • 2Gb of OCZ ram

  • Pallit 8800GT (thinking of adding a 2nd, but undecided)

  • 320GB Hitachi Deskstar HDD

  • Soundblaster XFi - (something not right with this, sometimes i have to wear my headphone back to front because it reverses the audio)

  • Case is a licensed version of the Raidmax Smilodon but has the added bonus of a 120mm exhaust fan instead of the Raidmax 80mm (there is also a 120mm intake and a further 3x 80mm intake/exhaust fans (the 120mm intake and 1 of the 80mm fans blow air through the HDD - i recommend this case for the budget builder (sub $100) :))

  • Corsair 520W modular PSU

  • 22" widescreen monitor

  • Saitek X52 Pro joystick (pedals and trackIR to follow over the next couple of months)

averages around 70-80fps most the time with variation from about 30 to 190 that i can recall depending on the whether on ground or in the air, light or heavy fight. Much higher than my old system, however 1 thing i have found is that i now suffer from the lag death of killing someone, then them killing me and both dieing (previously i would just miss and die due to lag and low fps :D)

I still suck at flying though, only now i cant blame my pc hehe

P35 is an intel chipset MB. You can't run dual nvidia 8800gt's in that MB. The intel P35 chipset only supports crossfire for ATI in dual card setups as far as I know. Nvidia competes with intel directly for the MB market with their nforce series. They won't allow intel to support SLI. It gives them market advantage since they are ahead in the video card segment and those wanting SLI setups are stuck with their MB's. There was rumors of hacked SLI drivers to allow it in intel chipsets though. Intel's skulltrail dual cpu MB allows SLI or crossfire but it's the only intel chipset, I think.

The intel chipsets seem a little better to me personally since core2duo and I don't care for a dual video card setup. That's what I run with my core2duo. It's 1 older gen then yours. The P965 chipset. I held out for an Abit though, AB9pro. When I bought it, it was the best overclocking board around for core2duo.

yeah, i just read about the lack of sli support in intel chipsets not 5 minutes ago, really sucks. i want to add a 2nd screen for parsing etc, but not sure how best to do it with the card i have, dont want to spend too much at this time, if needs be ill sort out an alternative using the network and a laptop but thats more long term (im wanting to setup an internal network with a domain controller as practie for work)

The alternative would be to run dual ATI HD 4850's or 4870's. The 50's being more affordable. They're already taking preorders on some sites in the $200 range for the 4850 and it performs about as good as the 9800gtx.

There's nothing wrong with ATI and its going to be what you have to go with if you want dual cards in that setup.

I wanting to run this game at high FPS and @ full specs.

I'm in the market for a new PC.

This is what i have come up with

1. ASUS Striker II Formula

2. 4096MB (2 x 2048MB) PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 RAM (Dual Channel)

OR

4096MB (2 x 2048MB) PC2-8500 1066MHz DDR2 RAM (Dual Channel)

Though i have heard the extra Mhz does not make much difference and the price is like double.

3. Core 2 Quad Q9450 (2.66GHz) - LGA775, 12MB Cache, 1333FSB

4. Noctua NH-U12P Performance CPU Cooler - Intel LGA775, AMD AM2/AM2+, 120mm Fan, 1300rpm, 92.3m3/hour, 19.8dBA

5. 500GB 7200rpm Serial ATA-II-300 HDD

6. Vista premium 64bit

What sort of FPS am i looking at in heavy battles? at the moment i'm getting around 9fps in heavy battles lol sometimes 0fps

Good motherboard, good RAM, quad-core CPU is unnecessary (go with an Intel Wolfdale dual core instead)...

Where's the video card?
