I have same issue as garby above.

This started to occur three or four days ago - No software has changed my end other than firewall updates.

But I'm not sure it is actually giving me serious problems.

Debug:

1. I start playgate and login.

2. I get a "Windows Type Error Message": (Network Error) "Please Check Your Firewall! Network Setup Error: Network Access Failed" - Only an "OK" button exists

3. I click "OK"

4. The game starts (fine)

5. I can play, chat works, map works. I can kill stuff and stuff kills me.

Issues:

1. There might be an issue with me seeing ALL same-side-players on my mini-map (and big-map) - I tested this in very light action and believe a number of avitars I could walk up to and see in game were not on the maps in game.

2. More difficult to test - But I believe I may not see everyone "in game" - Again I tested in v light action and it is possible I am not seeing all enemy avitars (as I say, difficult to test)

What I've done:

1. I have checked all firewall logs and nothing is reported as being blocked (I am not turning off my firewall!)

2 Checknet test results (all OK?):

=== Test Started @ Thu Mar 05 08:48:25 2009

UTC ===

Test 1: Auth Pri -OK- 234ms

Test 2: Main Pri -OK- 234ms

Test 3: Main Alt -OK- 265ms

Test 4: Main PingPri -OK- 234ms

Test 5: Main PingAlt -OK- 280ms

Test 6: Main Chat -OK- 234ms

Test 7: Event Pri -OK- 234ms

Test 8: Event Alt -OK- 265ms

Connection tests completed OK.

I have NOT yet chosen to use "Secondary" - Do you think I should?

Cheers for any help

Having received no response (NOT A MOAN!), I decided to switch to "Secondary Connection" in the setting application (Connection Drop-Down).

My "Network Error" has vanished.

PING TIMES

Thanks for posting the impressive ping times, newfive ;)

Does anyone else in Oz want to post their ConnectChk ping results for comparison with mine? (Oz is a little bit further from Texas than Florida) :)

... And yeah - I'm well use to the simu-kills :)

It is happening to me too. First time. Played fine on Wed., now it gives me the error. Tried all the fixes, and nothing.

I've been playing the game again for only a few days now, and had reinstalled the full game from scratch. I had heard several people mention in game about some sort of connection problem, but hadn't seen it myself since about 3 days ago.

And then a few days ago I started getting an error message every time I started the game. When first running the desktop shortcut and logging in with my information, an error would pop up about some network error. Once I clicked OK, then error window would close and the game would start up just fine. No crashes, no errors, no obvious lag, nothing. Just the normal game.

But, as of today, I am now not even able to run the game at all. Every time I try to run the game I get the authentication server errors everyone else is mentioning. I have done every single option that has been recommended, including:

Checknet4

Test Starting.

Test 1: Auth Pri -OK- 94ms

Test 2: Main Pri -OK- 78ms

Test 3: Main Alt -OK- 63ms

Test 4: Main PingPri -OK- 78ms

Test 5: Main PingAlt -OK- 78ms

Test 6: Main Chat -OK- 78ms

Test 7: Event Pri -OK- 63ms

Test 8: Event Alt -OK- 63ms

Connection tests completed OK.

I have also confirmed that the tcp/udp ports are open on my router and firewall, that my a/v software has been given the OK for this program, that the shortcut is properly filled with "Program Files", flushed the DNS, reinstalled playgate, tried connecting with the secondary settings, and everything short of reinstalling the game again. It was working fine before, and NOTHING has changed on my system, so what's up? And yes my account data is current and valid as well.

So what's going on? Are we going to get credit back for the days we're unable to log in? If not, I'm about to just send in a refund request and dump this game in my recycle bin. I've been wanting to come back and play this game again, but if I can't even log in then what's the point in paying for it? I know games can have issues, but this apparently has been going on for a while now and still hasn't been fixed. When an MMO is unable to let players log online, that's a huge problem. I'd appreciate some sort of status on the problem and its resolution.

Right now the servers are down. So that is your problem.

Fix for Issue:

In the Settings Application (start - programs - crs) there is a "Connection" drop down box. It is probably set to "Best connection". Try setting it to "Secondary Connection"

(this is explained in the first post, but it isn't in a prominent place ... Took me a while to spot it)

Fixed the issue for me

;)

Would have been nice to see some sort of post or alert message informing us that the servers were down, instead of pulling our hair out thinking something was wrong with out connections.

Now that the servers are back up, I'm not having the problem anymore. I'm also not getting that warning error when starting playgate. Guess they fixed the issue, but it still would have been helpful if they informed us. And if they do, where are we supposed to see server status?

When the servers went down this morning, we posted that on the main website an in an announcement here in the forums, which appears in yellow at the top of each forum folder. They haven't been down since they were brought back up ~11:30 AM US Central time.

There was a secondary issue only for those making changes to their account status (resubbing, changing passwords, etc.) between 8:30 AM (when the servers went down) and about 4:30 PM, but was resolved then and pending account changes took effect then.

The new playgate we are working on will show server status.

Please review the recently updated first post in this thread for an experimental version of playgate that might help those persistently getting the Unable to Authenticate Error message.

I have had connection problems for 2 weeks now. I've tried dumping DNS, I tried the experimental playgate launcher, I manually added the tcp/udp ports to Norton, I disabled Norton, windows firewall is off, I used both primary and secondary connections, and low level player rendering.

I can go on. Lets just say I've tried everything listed on the forums and on the wiki page.

The game was running fine and no connection errors until two weeks ago.

Now every time I open and log into playgate I get a "Please check your firewall! Network Setup Error: Network Access Failed."

When I tracert www.playgate.com I get this.

Which leads me to believe that there is an interuption at whatever ISP CRS uses.

I had SSE2 off and on, and the Netcode2 off and on. No difference.

The symptoms are getting into game and CTHL'in within 5-10 minutes. I sometimes lose chat connection several times before the game actually kicks me.

I can't even submit a support ticket at the moment because the window says "Session Error." I have submitted posts in threads like this with no help.

This game has apparently been having this issue since, as far as I can tell, 2006. And was linked with something CRS's ISP was doing, like how it was interfacing with the routers and switches of other ISPs.

This is apparently effecting several other users who have posted on this thread. And so I am here complaining that if I don't get help soon I will be canceling my sub.

Just thought id make a reply to maybe help CRS with fix.

I'd done everything firewalls to resetting passwords etc etc after this had started for me after 2 years off playing without a problem for it to start last 2 days with me unable to log in.

That playgate 1.9f fix worked for me thankyou.

Hello.

Thank you for running Checknets. That shows that your firewall is open to connect to our game server.

We are not sure why so many are still unable to reach our authentication server with the game. We would greatly appreciate more information from you in the form of traceroutes so we can investigate if there are an ISP issues contributing to this problem.

To generate a Traceroute, please follow these steps:

1. Go to Start -> Run

2. type "Command" and press "Enter"

3. type "tracert auth.playnet.com"

This should return:
