Netwrok Error: Check Firewall settings

95 posts in this topic

I'm getting the same network error. However, I'm also seeing terrible performance in game (worse than normal) since I started to get this message. I just logged in and on my first spawn my screen was completely frozen. I would unfreeze ever few seconds just long enough to freeze again. I'm rebooting now, and got the same network error message. :(

I hope that all of you are not using Comcast as I am !! I've been losing connection constantly since noon Friday !! Can hardly get 15 minutes playing time in ,then modem disconnects. Had service from out Sunday and today ,still having same problem, the service rep Sunday told me I'm not the only one in the area having this problem, all of this is on top of the firewall error !!!

Same thing here.

I can log in, but get far higher packet loss and ping issues. I'm on a Verizon FiOS connection in Southern California as well. I'd be curious to see in what other areas people are experiencing this issue.

I've been getting this "Network Error: Check Firewall settings" as well.

Occasionally I also get a network connection issue in game; switching from netcode 2 to default.I have also seen an increase in packet loss, periodic increase in lag (but I've recently upgraded my video card and CPU significantly), and occasional network connection lost disconnects.

I've had no problems until recently.

Location: Australia.

ISP: iinet adsl 2+

It probably won't help, but I set my connection from "Use Best" to "Primary" and I still get the message, but the packet loss is pretty much gone.

I'm guessing coincidence, but it's worth a shot.

Same thing for a few days now, playable after clicking OK for the network error, but now as soon as I log in, after about a Minute my monitor goes off and I have to do a reset. Totally unplayable now. Tired of re booting. Using Nvidia 7 series on a viewsonic wide screen. All drivers up to date. Cant play anymore. Going to try a full install and reinstall video drivers. Will repost tomorrow after a good nights rest.

Run wwiiol_netcheck? located in your CRS folder... run and post.

Be sure all your windows updates (critial) are installed... also be sure you have latest drivers for your sound, video, network. If you have VIA chipset get the latest 4in1 drivers...

Defrag those harddrives also, you should run defrag once a month...

It is not easy trying to figure out what may be the issue without having access to your computer. I have helped several past squadmates using "Request Remote Assistance" through MSN Messenger...

I have been getting the same "Network Error: Check Firewall settings" message at launch as well. Started about a week ago although when I click 'OK' to the message the game goes ahead and launches. I haven't checked for any packet loss and have not noticed a difference so far.

There have no configuration changes on my end and I thought maybe I got a recent Windows patch that is causing this.

Funny thing is, this problem Started the day after I defrag'd my hard drive, everything worked just fine before. Still haven't had time for a full install. Game is totally unplayable, as soon as side select screen comes up I loose monitor and have to do a hard reset.

?Full install of what?? you mean full defrag?? Defrag has nothing to do with how your divers work.

Defragmentation of Harddrive:

If it seems like your computer has gotten slower since you bought it, it probably has. One of the biggest factors that slows down your computer’s performance is fragmentation, a situation that occurs over time, in which files on your hard drive become divided into small pieces. Your computer must read a file to open, save, or close it. So when it reads each piece of a fragmented file separately, the effect is that the file can seem “slow” when you’re working with it.

Defragmenting your hard drive is the process of putting all the scattered pieces of files back together. Microsoft Windows XP includes a tool that will defragment your hard drive for you. To keep your system performing well, it’s a good idea to have Windows XP automatically defragment your hard drive every week.

Although if you stop it in the middle of a defrag you can possibly move critial items that will make your system run worse. It is also possible to create issue due to stopping defrag before it is complete resulting in partial defrag files or parts of that file being lost... (possible not likely).

I think almost everyone is getting this message, falsely or correctly. It was intended to give you the opportunity to fix your firewall before the game loads (and you fail to connect). Obviously, for most people, the message is erroneous - we're even getting it here.

If you are getting the Unable to Authenticate error message, please refer to that recently updated (an hour ago) sticky thread.

Im getting this error now when I launch the game. The Dos like screen comes up after I hit accept/launch on playgate I get prompt to hit ok, I click it screen goes black like normal then back to desktop.

Started getting this yesterday, clicked Ok, game played fine. Didn't think any more of it, just a mild annoyance.

Today however I try to log in and as soon as I choose a persona the map screen comes up and starts to 'zoom' to my location but half a second later the game freezes. I managed to get task manager up and the process is using 100% on one of my two cores.

The only way to fix it is to kill the process. I've tried three times now with the same thing each time.

Game is now unplayable for me too :(

checked in offline mode, worked fine. They must be screwing something up on their side as it worked fine for me yesterday.

I missed out on the attacks today because of this. The best I could do was log into unified TS and listen in for a while.

With all ports of my router opened, and the windows firewall disabled, i get this message... "Check your Firewall, etc..."

But the problem is also that i can't play the game, because i have CTHL in less tan 5 minutes after conection, sometimes in 1 minute.

Lot of people in my squad has also the same problem, and doesn't matter wich is the internet provider of my country (Spain). They can't post here because they doesn't speak english, but they are a lot of people.

I've asked KFS1 to look at this as soon as he can. I'm seeing a few players from overseas now whose connections starting dropping packets (the "*"s in the traceroutes) before they get to our networks. For instance, on yours, the 7th hop on the first route, and the 11th hop on the second route, do not look good.

One thing that might help KFS1 is some data from TeulTest.

This is a little program he wrote to check your actual bandwidth to our servers. It sends packets of different sizes and then calculates an estimated effective bandwidth (not the maximum bandwidth your ISP tells you but how well data actually gets through).

There's a little more about it here:
