Netwrok Error: Check Firewall settings

95 posts in this topic

I have 2 machines going through the same router connected via 20MB cable in the UK. Both machines get the firewall error message, but I only occasionally get CTDs or CTHLs. Here are my TeulTest results for one of the machines using both networks - this is purely for comparison with other people's results. 2 tests on each at around 10:50 GMT on 8th March. (Neat test utility btw)

The firewall message this last week has been mostly erroneous. KFS1 thought he'd fixed it so that only those with actual firewall problems were getting it, but he was wrong about that on Thursday, so it might not have been fixed.

Thanks. Those all look good, which should help KFS1 narrow down the areas to look at.

Cid250, no, we don't need that log file to my knowledge.

I just resubbed and am also getting the "Network Error: Check Firewall settings" message, but then the game locks up and the "not responding: end program" window comes up, so no play.

I am not running any firewall; I ran the KFS1 test and it came out fine, and I've done everything recommended for the authentication issue as well, with no change in results.

Mighta just wasted $15... :-(

Correction: after the network settings error, I get the "program has encountered a problem and needs to close" message.

just bought this game last week and cannot stay connected more than 3 to 5 minutes. I have tried everything from Opening Ports 27015-21 to Disabling my Firewall and OSSC thingy. This is very frustrating to a new player who just paid 19.99 for Nothing.

I play two other Online games with no issues at all so not sure what else the problem could be?

I also ran the Checknet thing and it ran fine:

=== Test Started @ Mon Mar 02 04:55:52 2009

UTC ===

Test 1: Auth Pri -OK- 63ms

Test 2: Main Pri -OK- 47ms

Test 3: Main Alt -OK- 235ms

Test 4: Main PingPri -OK- 47ms

Test 5: Main PingAlt -OK- 235ms

Test 6: Main Chat -OK- 46ms

Test 7: Event Pri -OK- 47ms

Test 8: Event Alt -OK- 235ms

Connection tests completed OK.

And when I run the ping test to auth.playnet.com is gets to the playnet server then times out after the first line batch.

And I get the Firewall error that everyone else is getting. Now I can live with that Error cause it doesn't do anything but the CTHL really sucks. I can't complete Missions or anyhing. The game is almost unplayable for a New User currently.

I tried this game 7 years ago when it first came out and the server problems drove ALOT of us away. I truly hope this isnt still the issue.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate.

Nashces

Same here. Makes it look like I can't play, then it loads up fine anyway. Only change was updating my nvidia drivers.

Out of the blue this has started to pop up everytime i launch - nothing is changed on my end... the pop up comes up - i hit the "ok" button then the game launches like normal

I'm getting this too. Not every time I initially start the game but Every time after a CTD I click to reload, then when almost reloaded I get a CTHL, THEN, as I click to load the game again I get the "Check Firewall settings" message.

same error here. Had me virus scanning etc., and deleted my TOR channel (FUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!).

Now I just put it all back. This *might* be worth a community message with link to this, so others know its not an issue on their machine...?

updated nvidia drivers now game runs in slowmotion 1-3 fps

Updated thre winupdate

I'm not running that slow - but I do seem to have lost between 20-50% of my frame rate.

EITHER since updating my NVidia drivers to the latest set, OR since the "Network Error" message started appearing (both happened around the same time).

I did think I had seen the last of the Network Error, having changed my connection to Secondary, but alas it is back.

I think I will roll-back my NVidia drivers tomorrow and see if that puts my frame-rate back up where it was.

(Yes, I'm on Vista - And yes, it's my own fault)

OK So Everyone IGNORE the firewall message.

Great little tool btw. From London looks good enough for me.

Turning off anti virus increased speed by 90K and ping down by 30 which I found interesting to see the differences.

It was intended to give you the opportunity to fix your firewall before the game loads (and you fail to connect).

I smell **** up all over this,KFS1 boo boo...

I get the same message as others, click OK

I get > Playgate.exe

Playgate has encountered a problem and needs to close,we are sorry for the inconvenience....

Ive deleted everything in my machine to do with playgate and wwii online, even in the registry,as told in another post, downloaded the full install AGAIN,installed the game AGAIN same thing everytime..

Ok, I fixed my problem. Apon loading the game i got the network connection error display. Clicking OK on that would still let me load the game. Once in the game at the brigade screen the game would freeze.

SOLUTION = :Roll back lastest Radeon drivers........seems playnet would get grumpy co-existing with these latest drivers.
