BIGMAC gets big mac

18 posts in this topic

My MacPro Quad arrived today, and now I get to figure out how to migrate 5 years of stuff from my old G5 to the new one. Yikes!

One thing I will be doing is doing massive memory leak/overwrite testing, for which a high powered CPU is really needed.

Stomp those bugs!

I'm very jealous!

All I need to do is convince my wife that I need to replace our old iMac for a MacPro Quad. Could be dangerous!

Yea, its a whole new game. Of course, my GT120 doesn't handle normal maps correctly (missing walls etc). Nothing is perfect I guess.

I assume he is referring to a 'petabyte'.

1 PB = 2^50 (or 10^15) bytes

In ancient times this was called a 'big number'.

Ahwulfie! great timing as I am ordering 2.93 Quad Mac Pro this week! Which vid card did you go with ATI or Nvidia?? haven't made up my mind yet on that so wouldn't mind a little feedback. I am leaning ATI atm as I have to consider other graphic uses (bizness)

I just got the standard GT120. If you want more, I'd say the ATI 4870 as the drivers are a bit more mature.

It's not red. It's a mac pro' date=' so its apple steel. Glows a little when its moving.[/quote']

Good choice. I read in the January issue of Apple Magazine that the Apple Steel models gets a 6,5 % increase in performance over the red coloured models because of the steel cooling effect.
