Video Card Question

9 posts in this topic

Currently only happy with my current SLI card combo, 2x GeForce 7600GS. Not excited about it. I mean it works fine, but only okay. I know it could be much better. Have been looking at the GeForce GTS 250. Since SLI is an option, do any of you find any pros/cons towards SLI?

I am spending frugally on a budget.

It's always better to use a single powerful graphicscard than to buy 2 bad ones and make em SLI'd (GTS250 ain't bad,but still,SLI is not used a lot, especially in this game.).. I suggest you go for a GTX275.;)

Buy a single-GPU card.

SLI creates noise, heat, and you'll buy 2 cards but you'll never have a 200% increase on framerate. And it's binary: on some games, SLI/Xfire don't work at all.

Take a ATI Radeon 58xx, or a 4890. Cheapier and better than GTX 275.

I like to stick to Nvidia. I have all these years.

Wait for a Nvidia discount on the GTX (about one month) due to the release of ATI 58xx (NVidia has... nothing to oppose: worst performance and price).

Find some more $$$ and get a GTX275 if you really want to get a NVidia ;)

But it may be the good moment to switch and try ATI ? (I was like you before getting a 4890 & 5850) ;)

Lots of airflow, plenty of fans, pretty roomy. Very quiet.

Why buy a SLI setup??

- More power use

- Not always the same peformance

- Micro stutters.

Get an Ati 5870.. It`s almost as fast as the gtx295.

When considering ATI and nvidia you have to look at more than the card. Right now ATI drivers do not like this game and sometimes you have to look and find the right drivers that may work with this game.

Plus ATI has horrible driver support compared to nvidia. If you want a video card that does work with this game 100% go with nvidia if you don't want to fool around with the drivers. ATI may have the better cards but their drivers especially for this game are horrible. Some people have good luck with the drivers others very bad luck.

nvidia cards work best for this game and have for awhile now.
