Me no play :-(

59 posts in this topic

Hey people. Been away from game for a while but i'm back-ish. Thought i'd be clever and do a complete install of the game after removing it completely off my PC. Managed to download, start up and get into game just fine. Was only running 35 FPS in an empty town so i despawned, set settings to "best game performance", tweaked a few settings back on like muzzle flashes etc and saved. As always it told me to restart before they would take effect. So i closed the game down no problems, clicked my WWIIOL icon, hit ToS OK, did my password, playgate ok, select server press "enter" and ... well nothing, it just vanishes and the game never appears like it should?

I've included my WWII_Log file from the time i managed to log in if that helps.

I've deleted the game twice and tried fresh installs (full installs). I have no idea what the problem could be, any idea?

hey fearny,

Try the easy stuff first:

Driver Date/Size: 11/26/2010 02:58:12, 550400 bytes

Pay a visit to ATi's website and update those gfx drivers ... it's 2012, man ;)

Windows Start - All Programs - Cornered Rat Software - Settings

Check:

  • In game resolution same as desktop
  • ATi Graphics Card selected

Also:

  • Check firewall isn't having an off day

If you can't select the ATi graphics, see this (laptop or no): http://forums.battlegroundeurope.com/showthread.php?t=383509

Been many server related issues, over the last month ... So worth checking the Bugs forum to see whether or not someone is reporting something similar (comes and goes, it seems)

If none of that lot works, lets us know and we'll figure it out

:)

Driver updated, no change, Graphics card selected fine.

I'm bemused as to why it worked fine and then stopped almost immediately :-(

Tried shutting down my firewall for 15 minutes as well, still no change.

Fresh install, still no luck.

Can you run it offline without crashing? Seems like it may be something network related if so.

Agree with ness.

Try: Windows Start - Cornered Rat Software - Battleground Europe - Practice Offline.

Does it start?

Can you spawn?

Does it stay up OK?

That will isolate whether or not it is the network side of things.

(And I posted the basic stuff, because I figured your problem may have been the settings xml file after making some in game changes to it - Try the test above, as that will shows us either way) ;)

Appreciate this guys!

Right, trying to boot up offline gets me nowhere at all, it doesn't start so hopefully not a network issue but something my side, dodgy file somewhere?

Ok, when i'm downloading the game now i'm getting a wierd windows style log in box, will try and screeny it this time...

Hmmm

I just searched fro every Battleground europe file/CRS file i could find and wiped them from my PC. Then did a fresh install, once again the game worked fine, went to switch some settings, saved them, logged off in order for them to take effect and the problems back again, can't boot the game up again...

Do you have any other games installed that you could test to see if perhaps something 3d related has failed? If not, grab some OpenGL benchmark thing like Furmark to see if that will run (Furmark is a GPU stress test so dont run it too long if you dont have proper cooling)

http://www.geeks3d.com/20111216/furmark-1-9-2-released-gpu-stress-test-utility-opengl-benchmark/

I'd say start with the basics and unplug all non-essentials so you just have a keyboard and mouse plugged in. From there you might wanna try to disable or remove your sound card, or update the drivers for your audigy, and update the drivers for your realtek audio as well just for good measure.

Can you post your crashlog from when it crashed just trying to launch offline?

Disable other system processes that may be running like antivirus.

Erm, no idea? Never installed Realtek to my knowledge, I have an SB card

Erm' date=' no idea? Never installed Realtek to my knowledge, I have an SB card[/quote']

Look at your posting, it says BOTH, can be a Hardware conflict there, Realtek on your MB maybe? And SB as add-in card?

Try disable realtek in Bios.

based off the error code in your screen shot, it almost looks like your internet security settings have gone bonkers. That error is due to something bad with your network settings, or IE security settings, but my money is on McAfee being a bully.

Solution: Disable Mcafee

Open Internet Explorer, visit http://www.mozilla.org and download firefox, and never touch IE again. If firefox wont download/install properly, check this page and adjust your IE settings and try again

I've disabled McAfee to no avail, I wouldn't be suprised if it was my internet settings. I will download Mozilla and then the game again and have another go...

Do i disable IE somehow, or just ignore it?

Ok, game re-downloaded and working fine, do i dare fiddle with my settings?!

EDIT: Ok, I didn't need to fiddle with my settings, it doesn't appear to be that that's the problem. I shut the game down and lo and behold it wouldn't then load up again, it only appears to work the very first time after downloading and not again.

Frustrating to say the least, waiting an hour to download before i play is a pain in the ass! lol

Frustrating to say the least, waiting an hour to download before i play is a pain in the ass! lol

I don't know but sounds more and more as a antivirus problem??? Think I had something similar (not this game but other exe/game/program) some years ago

Because of the weird windows error, I would run a check-disk:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

It may be that some sectors on your hard drive are bad (the above might fix). If errors are found, I would at least consider a new replacement drive (as in, if there were errors, even if they are fixed, it is probably on its way out).

If the above is the case, chances are that files are getting corrupted after install (maybe your WWIIOL settings file).

(If there's nothing to repair, then the tool above does nothing, so there's nothing to worry about)

Let us know ...

Damn that took a long time! No errors found though, everything seems fine :-/
