Several months later, still unable to log in CDT at loading screen

20 posts in this topic

Since 1.34 I've been having problems logging in.

The game stalls at the 'finding best connection' text on the loading screen.

For a short while after the last patch, I was able to launch the game. However, it's reverted back crashing at the same place.

I've changed the connection from 'primary' and 'secondary', but with the same result.

After nine years of playing the game I'm seriously thinking about unsubbing.

Mem nooooo!

Is this on a mac (can't remember if you still run on one) or pc?

If PC, some things to try (sorry if it sounds like an egg sucking lesson, let us know which ones you've tried already) :

1)Shut off any and all firewalls and antivirus progs.

2) Download Pingplotter freeware and see what happens when you trace the game server address 66.28.224.143 (it is normal to fail at the last hop)

3)Uninstall the game AND any beta versions you might still have. Then run a registry maintenance program and make sure all BE references are gone. Reinstall and try again.

If you like we can do a session on team viewer and I can see if I can spot anything you might be missing.

im sure your in good hands .. but can you run the game in offline mode ?

its sounds like net issue .. but assumptions ...

if game runs fine in offline then its not graphics or other hardware and does point to net something or other.

After some time, I think Rubbish managed to sort out the problem.

Avast antivirus software doesn't like BE. :-(

Wierd my Avast Luvs BE:

Out of interest, do you have the free or paid version?

For several years, I've used the free version of Avast without any problems with BE.

However, I decided to beef up my PC security and upgraded to the paid version of Avast. This seems to have coincided with the connection problems with BE.

I'll try and give it another go later today.

Out of interest, I completely removed Avast from my PC and attempted to load BE.

Sadly, the result was the same with the game CTDing at the 'finding best connection' text on the loading screen.

I'm sure it's something on my machine, but there's only one game that has a problem. All the rest work fine.

I would be surprised if Avast! was the problem. I've used it for many years and installed it on many people's machines, and never known an issue with it. In fact, one of the good things about it is that it is very non-intrusive of other applications. I haven't tested the paid version, so it would be good if anyone using that could report their experiences. If you go to Avast! user interface > settings > silent / gaming mode you can change its behaviour for gaming, although I have always found the default settings fine for WWIIOL.

Nope, still not working. I gave it several goes after removing Avast and disabling the MS firewall, but it crashed in the same place each time.

I tried a few of other games and they all worked first time without any problems.

There's something particular about BE, my machine and perhaps my ISP, buggered if I know what to do now.

Sadly, it's back to WoT for me. :-(

it does work in offline mode though right ? which means its most likely a network issue

if it was me, being obssesed an OCD about comp issues .. i would probably take my setup to a friends place and test it from there .. to see if it was my connection. and or get a computer to my house - load WWIIO and test it .. to see if another comp can work from my location .

by some might say life is too short for all that. (i wouldnt :P )

It works fine offline so it's definitely a connection issue.

On Friday evening, Rubbish spent a couple of hours logged on remotely to my PC trying various things. He even tried logging on to BE using his account details, but had a similar result to me in that the game crashed on the loading screen. So it's something about my PC that doesn't like BE.

I am getting a bit OCD about this as its become a bit of a challenge to work out why BE doesn't work and everything else does.

what ISP in the UK are you using and what kind of line package.

Also are you on wireless or wired connection?

EDIT: ah, have just seen you are on virgin cable...good luck with that I know a fair few people who could not play online game due to virgin cable, as soon as they changed suppliers they could get online.

It's a wired connection.

Virgin's been my ISP since before I started to play BE, and I've been playing, or to be accurate was playing, BE for nine years. The connection problems have only started since 1.34 came out.

I'm certainly not going to switch from a 60 mbps fibre optic 'to the house connection' to a BT copper wire connection just to play BE.

There's three different computers in this house (two Macs, one PC) and out of all of them only one program's not working. You can guess what that one is.

I'm not the first to have this problem though...

i would suggest a OS redo .. but if youve tried it on 3 comps ... and all have issues .. then .. well its got to be the network between your computers and the server .. whether its something with the router .. or the ISP .. or god knows what ..
