Let go back to OLD days and STOP the patchwork at the game

CRS get the server down for 1 or 2 weeks and FIX the problems so we get balanced and all the lack and stuff get rid of it

Take the servers down (and kill revenue stream) to what end? It is completely possible to develop the game while the servers are up.

We have gone back to the 'old' days... Or maybe you mean to pre-fru/MSP days... we could go back to riding to battle in/on vehicles (would most likely be bad).

This patch has been mostly positive. CRS has even made a few post-patch changes (such as reducing MSP timer to 30 seconds) to smooth out the few rough edges.

Just a few minutes ago I saw a sight I hadn't seen in years.. multiple trucks leaving a FB with ATG/AAA (some had both) in tow and armor. IMO that is an improvement.

what about a kind of.

Fb -> Fru deployed by vehicle-> Ms deployed by inf

you own Fb -> you may deploy Fru with truck (or similar to truck like discussed above) -> from this Fru and only while this Fru is up (can't be moved) -> the mission leader could deploy a MS like it is been done before but with limitations like (distance to Fru and closest enemy facility, define a time before setting the MS or after the previous one is been destroyed, etc)

aditionally the FRU could be upgraded by using engineers (sappers or whatever they are called now) to strengthen it. this stronger version of FRU would need a sapper charge or bomb or similar to be destroyed.

This way we cover the ideas of:

- gaining terrain or owning an area

- enhaces team work

- creating strong point (FRU) encourages use of ATs, etc (lets say you get ammo only at FRus)

- Provide new targets for aviation (FRU)

- you get combat outside towns (combat around FRUs)

- new use for engineers

- etc

most of the things needed are already ingame, like Fru, ms, building tools, etc

EDIT:

this enhanced FRUs could benefit defenders and battle in huge towns (that nowadays is the only thing I hate). Imagine If as a defender, you could set a Strong point (enhanced MS) in a huge avenue or strategic point(factory, port, etc). Nowadays you need to hide your MS because they are so easily destroyed and/or camped and fighting in huge towns is only running to get to the closest depot.

Ps Bierbaer. I guess we sometimes forget how to ask for help. There is a lesson to be learned here so thanks for pointing it out. see you on the battlefield

Cautiously positive.

Gavalink said it the best in regards to teamwork being even more necessary now. I was somewhat worried that the game did not have the population required to support such a change in teamwork, but so far I am pleasantly surprised.

This all goes back to Steam. The key with the Steam release is having a game that people will want to stay with and subscribe to. This will give us the population needed to make the game shine. However, in order for the game to draw more players, it needs to shine, but that requires more population.

I am cautiously optimistic that we are at that happy medium where we can avoid that dreaded Catch-22.

There are still many other issues that need attention (with balancing the BEF at the top of my list), but I think this is a step in the right direction.

Regardless of whether you like or dislike the new stuff Everyone should be happy that things are being done as opposed to 3 years of nothing being changed at all!

We are listening to all of the players and reading the threads getting as much feedback as we can get. We are here for the long term and we hope everyone is here with us. Yes we will make mistakes and we will learn from them. What we ask is not to jump ship without really working with us. We are not the old team!

Lol easy mode is over and axis start complaining....let me help you some here, when you take an opel to town bring a pak and 2 rifle men to set up with your fru so they can defend it while you start getting people into town then call in your armor reserves ect when you have established a ZOC.

All these inf placed frus make it to easy now that you have to use a little team work seems the zerg is over ??

No more walking out 5 dfru to set up behind us you gotta set your def as soon as ews goes off react faster ect.

These are just some pointers from an old vet!

Malvoc out....

Malvoc,

I'm also an "Old Vet". I have played both sides in this game and for years on end with each side. I find that most behaviors in this game are learned over time. Ask yourself why the Axis side has become so infantry centric over the the years? Could it be they perceive there is a weakness in the way their armor is modeled versus the allied armor? Could it be they don't believe that their armor can and should be the focus of an effective ZOC as a result. Could it be that they believe ATGs will just get chewed up by air (especially 88's since you can't put them in a bunker)? After all, the air game is town centric and that seems to favor the turning ability of allied aircraft. That seems to be the feedback I am getting. Right or wrong that is the perception. And right or wrong you and I both know, as "Old Vets", that something will be done if one side dominates for too long ;-) .

OHM,

Know that as much as we beat you up we still lub ya. You are bringing the game forward and that is appreciated. I know that it will take some time to find the answers and there will be growing pains. I have no doubt that you guys are doing what you feel is best to move the game forward as you move toward a Steam release. Look on the bright side. If people didn't care they wouldn't beat you up. They would just unsub and move on to another game.

Very POSITIVE!!!! Reminds me of the old days! If anyone played last night(Im allied) It was seriously one of the funnest nights i have had in a long time!!

Seems now more people stay together! Looking at the mini map, you could see the sense of your own "line" as you don't see as many lonewolfs now.

And even at times now when there isn't as many people on, you still get the feeling of a "big" battle because people are more together and not so spread out when attacking.

I think this was a great move CRS!

I did not read the thread yet, but I can tell you the MSP has been a superb change. The AA and ATG game is alive and kicking now. I have not seen as many towed ATGs and AA in play in 4 years mb? People are spawning tanks like crazy too at the FBs in T-3. Sure we are still getting RPATed and sapped but the tanking game is back in force and we are battling tanks and ATGs to hold ground, not the magic fru behind or in your ZOC. I talking about the Allied side atm, however I have seen a load of Axis ATGs being towed up and AA. I ran into a Axis flak trap that apparently was wreaking havoc on our CAS on a Axis attack. I cannot remember the last flak trap away from the FB I had to contend with. People are also using the paras much more often also.. Over chat and TS there is actual organization being discussed and HC is much more involved with that organization. IMHO that is probably one of the best aspects and biggest step in the right direction. Oh, fb defense.. fbs are being defended because we know when trucks are leaving town. Some of the best game play has been fighting for the FBs which are requiring much more concerted effort with combined forces. Very positive note for sure. Nothing for free sofar.

The 88 is your answer ' date=' stop sniffing glue. Nobody uses it. Too fragile and huge profile a green tag shoots with a rifle your dead. No protection whatsover. Obviously you never used one, lobs shells like an inept highschool QB. The 251 another dust collector unless you are cleaning up moles in a big city or its the last thing with a MG in the brigade. Tell me a story when you were cornered by either one of these uselss toys.[/quote']

2011 - you where not here when the 88 ruled the battlefield. The 88s primary downfall was the FRU. I could run out and set one up and wait. If the enemy was coming in from another area, I would run over there and set it up... then have a brigades worth of infantry at my disposal if I died trying to kill the 88. I would just respawn and run the 3-400m to sap, zook and ATR all the 88s and tanks I could till my fru went down. Then I would just hang and wait for the cool down timer. The MSP is the best thing to happen for the 88... and well all ATGs.

Negative to the point of losing interest in playing the game.

Care to go into some more detail? I'm just curious why it's that bad for you.

That was before the sight was changed Stank - now it jumps all over you get sea sick - its a last resort weapon only - especially with Allied air superiority. Not a whine, just a fact. We'll adapt and get things straightened out again.

Plus I vote - POSITIVE

I have used it more then a few times myself. I was axis after to the changes. My biggest complaint was the rounds timing out at 2.5k instead of 3k. Now a bofors can out range the 88 for counter fire. I never noticed a significant change in the recoil if any. The last time I used it was mb 8 or 9 months ago when AEF went Axis, I did not have an issue with it being bouncy on flat terrain but only if I was too close to a berm. That same thing happens with the 3" and 17pdr and you have to reposition it to stop it.

The 88s and 17pdrs are often hunted by air, just after the patch a squaddie and me got some 17pdrs out and where killing ETs to where 111s, 09s and and 110s where hunting us.. 111s where dropping on what I would assume our map marks because they where off about 500m dropping on nothing. ATGs require a ZOC with CAP and infantry to keep them safe. Prior to this patch, I usually got 1 or 2 kills with a 17pdr before I had EI popping up all over the place because some EI got with in 400m and putting up a fru.

The 88 and 17pdr have the same pressure with air, its just much harder to get to them with infantry now. Especially if they are inside the ZOC.

Yes, we know how to set up a zoc. Unfortunately, we axis players in tz3 don't have the manpower to get trucks, then atgs and tanks, and then infantry escort, because by then, we wouldn't have enough to cap the town itself.

Hello All.

I feel this requires a 2 part answer in the positive or negative format, mostly.

  • Do I like there is a "New Patch"? - VERY Positive.
  • Do I like the modifications contained in "this NEW Patch"? - Oh, I wish it were that easy...

New content is always good, however some, specifically the MP34, is superfluous. The British Sten and the US Greasgun are, in my opinion, Iconic WWII weapons and do have a place in Battleground Europe and therefore should be included. The FG42 on the other hand is more of a curiosity than anything else. For me, its inclusion in Battleground Europe would have been a low to very low priority, but it is here so enjoy.

The increased Tiger turret traverse rate is completely contrary “Historic Accuracy” and should NOT have even been considered, let alone implemented. The question is now, when will the M10s traverse rate be increased as it is pretty slow (Historically Accurate) as well? See the “can of worms” you open when you do what the Game Players “Want”. Where does it stop? The Red vs Blue hues are beginning to show through as this IS what game players really want. They “Want” their side to be at “No Disadvantage” when compared to the other side. If we were actually talking about the “Truth” of what players want, game players ALL want their side and specifically themselves to be invulnerable.

The Truck ONLY placed FRUs. There is a lot to be said in favour and against, much of which has been gone through in many other places. I do agree the previous implementation of FRUs needs to be revised. Will this implementation be any better? Only time will tell. What it does do is make “Defence” easier. I fear Attacks will become unviable, especially with the current population levels. Additionally Game Players want easy. Make something “easy” and that’s where you will see Game Players gravitate towards.

You asked.

Cheers

There is a balance factor in ATG VS tanks that will be evident even more that before the patch.

I’m thing of the modeling of front armor and ATG performance against said armor.

Allied top tier tanks cannot be defeated frontally by 37, 50, and sometimes not even with 75/88 mm Pak.

Axis top tier tanks can easily be exploded (including Tiger) or at least gunner killed frontally by 57mm ATG.

Those facts although frustrating, could be overcome by seeking side shots on allied tanks.

Now when we have a front line, that is no longer possible.

I practical terms that will mean that allied town defenses can send Stuarts, Chruchills, Shermans, Mattys, and what not straight at axis ZOC and destroy it, axis can do very little about it. (if it hasn’t happen yet, soon also the allied officers will figure this out :)

Another consequence if this, is that when allied tanks advance from the ZOC towards the town, only the front will be available as a target for axis gunners, with the same result as above.

Those are also facts, no whining, just a description of one serious consequence of the change to FRUs.

If I like the change, depends if I’m playing allied or axis

If your atg/tank game relies on engaging stuff head on, you're doing it wrong.

Anytime you do that whether allied or axis you enter a game of luck.

Certainly some units are harder than others to kill and so it depends on what unit you encounter but head on is always to be avoided at all costs if you wanna live on the battlefield.
