Engineers repairing objects

12 posts in this topic

So we all know engineers can repair AI and bridges, but what about repairing objects? If they could repair flag buildings, FBs, or things such as that, it could add a bit more to the gameplay of the engineer.

Thoughts?

I am all for it. Especially repairing FBs could have some great sense.

I'm all for it so long as a special vehicle is required for many tasks. A lightly armored repair truck that repairs bridges, buildings and possibly stranded vehicles if that rare situation should arise. I don't mind engineers tools repairing nests or possibly even towers but not bridges, other large structures or vehicles with only the tool. I would not object to requiring the truck for towers and the engineers tool only works on ATG pits, AAA pits and MG nests at ground level. These could possibly include the large guns at airfields and ports, so long as they are on the ground. However, requiring the special repair truck for some of the very large guns might be an interesting additional requirement.

Demolitions being a different aspect of the engineer entirely. Perhaps the special repair truck doubles as a special demolitions truck. Giving engineers enhanced destructive power against bridges, buildings and large structures.

The special repair/demolitions truck would be relatively slow like the Morris Tractor.

Also, PPO building by engineers without and especially with the special repair truck would be another area where the game could be enhanced.

I don't mind the thread moving but you'll have to ask dwalin.

A truck just makes more sense to me and you would not have to expose yourself as the engineer as the repair vehicle would be doing the repairs. The engineer will still be highly useful as a demolitions and small repairs specialist. Enhancing the engineer infantryman's role in other ways would be welcome as well.

The truck would be an attachment to the Corps of Engineers that functions much as the engineers tool does instead of building a FRU it repairs large object more quickly and efficiently and more realistically represented. Perhaps even allow the old way of repairs as well such that the repair vehicle is just much faster and efficent if available. You could then get creative and add a few more specialized PPOs that the engineers vehicle could only place. I expect the engineers repair vehicle to be armored and a hybrid off of a tanks chassis would be welcome. Anything that provides light to medium armor protection for the user. Could even be significant armor protection. Heavy?

Maybe use that modified Sherman or pz to take down engineer bunkers and ppo's? Could be a good defensive tool when the attackers have a zoc going

I like this! Do you guys mind if I move this to the ideas thread for more discussion?

A moved thread leaves behind a 'Moved To (x)" message, so there shouldn't be any problem in moving posts to better organize them.

Wait a Minute! This is a conspiracy thread to enable Dwalin to get "repaired" in game everytime we almost kill him, right?

:)

p.s. Happy New Year Dwalin, Sir! :D

Anything destroyable should be repairable.

Time and points to be considered.

And it should all be done on the OUTSIDE of the objects

to give the enemy the ability to stop the repair.

Great improvement. Change the WWIIOL to the free to play simulator of WORK.
