Rifle AP rounds

6 posts in this topic

Answer me this Batman (CRS).

1. Why do the small arms use AP designed rounds in everything?

. Historically inaccurate for the game.

The only small arms weapon that should have an AP round to shoot with

is the AT Rifle, as it was designed to shoot tanks, but good for sniping too.

I discussed this with my brother who was a small arms expert for the military (W4).

From late 1950's to early 1980's. Expert and instructor in marksmanship too.

He has lots of historical references. You might say he know his shat.

Modelling reasons.

I think actually it was for gameplay. Killer wanted all infantry to be able to fight back against at least lightly armored vehicles. This was before sapper charges, HEAT RGs and RPATs.

As to what weapons should have AP as standard issue, the BAR's standard ammo was AP. That was the only WWII infantry bullet weapon other than AT rifles that had AP as standard.

?Um...

NATO specifies FMJ only to have ammo pass through and not kill as much.

Before NATO even existed though, armies of the world powers used FMJ steel core ammo already -to wound and cause TWO other infantry to have to drag the injured out. Three affected to a bullet!

Also, the use of steel core ammo gives everyone the ability to knock a driver of a light car or truck out.

I have a couple of spam cans of Russian and Czech 7.62X54R hanging around, and even the light ball ammo is steel cored.

It plows through quarter inch plate no prob, too.

I LIKE having it around. :)

Now, as for the game... we're not really here having a discussion on historical accuracy, are we?

Really?
