unique navy

6 posts in this topic

I feel like the current navy in-game is quite boring. theres no real fun in navy... sure you can get a 300 kill streak bombarding a town non stop. but if all factions have the same ship, its a matter of who sees who first.

I think we should get unique ships which fit each faction, like the German and their double barrel destroyers, America with their fletcher Class Destroyer, France with whaterver they had, and English with their own destroyers, this way all factions have a ship which is relatively similar, but have their own perks, like Fletcher with high rate of fire, German Destroyer for accuracy, english for speed, and french with whatever they had.

Secondly, our Freighters need a overhaul.

Look at my video:

Freighters need a much needed update.

I think they should be what we could say a mobile spawn/depot. as in they spawn light vehicles and atgs, and it is the ship commanders duty to crane the spawned vehicles onto the battlefield, or at least add a ramp. Infantry can spawn within the quarters in the ship. as a function to improve game play.

I can agree with SOME of your points. We do need some Navy upgrades. One of the most popular ones would be to add PT boats and E Boats to the fleets.

I DO think that you are on to something with the freighters, but I would suggest a modification to your suggestion. Freighters can already transport vehicles, so I would simply suggest giving them the added ability to also spawn a MSP like the trucks do, so that infantry can spawn for a "beach landing." This would make the transports actually truly useful for Coastal landings. It would also make it necessary to defend them against attack.

I think that allowing them to be a mobile spawn for armor would be too overpowered, however.

MSP on a low shoreline would be a great addition to the naval game, especially for freighters, I could see a very limited supply of light armor on the spawn list.

My thought is allow (MSP/FRU) what can spawn out of a depot and light armor only. Not a full brigades worth.

The bulk of the Kriegsmarine's destroyers were already sunk before the game starts. The Kriegsmarine from 1940 onward through the war was wholly incapable of fighting either the Royal Navy or the Marine Nationale at the destroyer-and-above level. The Marine Nationale had the most powerful destroyers in 1940...none of the German 1936 Type dual-turret ships were ready at game-beginning. At any point through WWII, the Royal Navy had more powerful and seaworthy destroyers than the Kriegsmarine, and several times as many of them.

Plus, destroyers were rarely used as convoy escorts. They were much too valuable for such use, and their boiler firetubes tended to carbon up if they were run for very long at freighter speed.

To make a balanced game with reasonable historical realism, the game's combat vessels should be motor gunboats...the Fairmile B is such a vessel, though the currently modeled armament is a poor choice...and motor torpedoboats. Most of the surface fighting that occurred in the Channel and North Sea involved MGBs and armed trawlers serving as convoy escorts, and MTBs serving as convoy raiders.
