USA Specific equipment

13 posts in this topic

CRS, it has been way too long for NO, USA specific equipment in the game.

There should be PLANES, TRUCKS, ATG, AAA, TANKS by now.

Let me know when you are putting ALL THESE in the game.

I might return.

;)

At the very least, there is no reason for the Americans to be limited to the P-38 in the air, especially since that's not even a version they ever flew.

That mark of the P-38 was rejected and NEVER saw action because it didn't meet specs. It was supposed to be sold to the French, but they were out of the war by the time it was to be delivered so the plane went to the British who gave it failing marks. It would have likely gotten the same from the French and never seen action.

We need the P-36, P-39, and P-40 for the Americans. They were planes the US actually used and they're already ingame.

P-39 with 37mm and p-38 with rockets, thank you. And, oh yeah, a B-17 or Liberator.

Wish I knew how to 3d model.

How about the good old GI jeep? Fits four, faster than the others, less noise, but can't lay down FRUs?

Or the Browning .30 caliber M1919 medium MG.

We could add the P-47 Thunderbolt in the air, with rockets and bombs, too.

I am all for US designated equipment.

I don't 100% agree with the P-38 not being used for the US. If ti's available, I think it should be put in the USAF.

I don't understand why XRS doesn't simply add US Fighter Squadrons to the game. So the bombers are British or French...that wouldn't change the fact that we would finally have an all US Air force unit, for those who have wanted it.

As far as for the Jeep, I have been arguing for that for a long time. I think Jeeps and Kubelwagons would be a terrific addition to the game. Give them an MG and they would be great. Faster than trucks, armed, and able to defend itself to a degree, while still vulnerable to infantry. Great for small squads.

I also want the US navy, even if all they do is reskin some boats haze grey, but that's me.

When Steam comes in, a lot of players are going to be looking to play US, and there should be more options for that.

If i was an allied i would be holding out for the p-51.. could be a long wait on that one though.. as far as the jeep, I'd love it too, def a ww2 icon. but id rather see a "supply train" vehicle. It would bring supply from backline towns, could travel fast on roads and very, very slow off road. This could mimic the supply trains, add content for pilots, and give a slight buff to supply over-stockers.

the in game p38 is the p38F minus the under wing pylons and it was flown quite a bit by the usaaf first kill over europe mid 42 as i recall. What the french actually ordered isnt what we have in game.

Slight correction. What the French ordered is what we have in game, an "F" without pylons. Actually it would have in reality been an E if the F hadn't superseded it by the time overseas orders were being considered in service production. Between their purchase order (1940) and actual production it was decided to create the "Mle.322" without turbo-superchargers and with 2 right hand rotation V-1710-33 engines. No deliveries were ever made due to France surrendering. It was the British that originally wanted same direction engines (non-contra rotating propellers) because they thought it would be better logistically (and never realized how extra awesome contra-rotating props would be at the time) combined with the Americans not wanting to give their best to an overseas client in the French order.

The British order was renamed "Lightning I" but were in reality the same as the Model 322.

Be kind of cool to actually have to manually load it and the drive it. I'd drive a train like vehicle of supplies with a nice escort. That would be cool and a good way to help the team. You could even have the ability eventually to have AI drive it on the road with or without an escort once loaded.

I think that this is further evidence that the decision to add the Americans was wrong. The tiers and TOE were butchered to make a reskinned faction, and now the players that were attracted by the US flag decal aren't satisfied with an incomplete list.

The French were already considered the Frenamericans and all the US-manufactured weapons being added now could have been put in to the French faction as lend-lease, and those could be used throughout the full game instead of just in the late tiers.

*** THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY (NOT THAT OF CRS) ***

I don't think it was a wrong decision.  For a game that's largely US based, not having the 'home team' in could be viewed as not ideal.  Given some of the recently added weapons, and those currently in the pipeline, adding US centric para-flags should be doable as there exist 'models' that could be reskinned with very little changes and put in a semi-complete Para BDE.  The hangup is with manpower though - any change - even simply reskinning an existing model, takes time.  CRS is actively looking for people to join the team.
