So That's why Germany didn't invade England...

22 posts in this topic

I've been trying to wrap my brain around different ways of invading England.  There are a few ways to go about it as far as I see, maybe you guys have other ways.  Here are a couple obvious options...

  1. Stealth:: load one or 2 TTs with opels, sail over and pray we have op.  Without op it will most likely fail due to lack of armor and no reserve opels after the first few are inevitable killed.
  2. Armada:: Full attack with Destroyers, air power and diversion TTs.  This might be a fun battle.  However, even with overpop all it takes is one stuart tank to kill every piece of equipment while unloading.

Starting to feel the logistical problems of the German army before the planned Sealion invasion.  Their problem was they did not have sufficient landing craft.  So, maybe how we have things now is pretty historically accurate.  But to ever have a sustained invasion of England we need landing craft in this game.  Or at least a faster way to unload equipment.

I'd like to hear some other opinions.  Maybe it should be this difficult idk.  But for sake of game, maybe we need a better way to unload equipment to encourage invasions and the great battles that it would bring.

I think we need to increase the speed of transport ships a little if we want to see more action in England.

Also, I recall that the EWS range of ships was increased recently due to ship RDP runs on allied factories.  I think we should not allow ships to bomb factories at all and lower the EWS range of ships again.

Those two things should help.

Need to have some type of air transportable FRU added to the game.  Perhaps FRU's could be set by transport planes in addition to trucks.

Armada doesn't work, the allies can just spam suicide DB7s and air escort gives away the position of the fleet due to AWS. If an enemy destroyer is encountered they will just aim for the TT and then despawn, doesn't matter if we have DDs of our own providing escort. There are no private missions so all it takes is one person logging on over the hours-long boat trip so they can see what you're bringing.

The only successful England TT invasion I participated in involved a close-knit squad, several experienced and very patient players (to forum up and load on the TT), and a single guy sailing overnight with the rest of us waking up early in the morning to unload our 251s and vehicles to attack Ramsgate. Several other times we wiped due to discoverty, sabotage, or were doomed by dropped connections.

What would make invasions more common would be to let fairmiles set FRUs on the coast, and then when FRUs turn in to bunkers it will also be easier. Making it easier to start fights seems to be going against one of the core game philosophies though, everything I've seen shows the game making fights more difficult to start because battles upset the chess game or someone doesn't like their town getting recaptured by another time zone.

They suicide tanks now, they'll sure as crap suicide your DD or TT.

Not worth the invasion thing right now, just a huge exercise in frustration, unless HUGELY over popped.

Maybe you guys could try para dropping onto Ramsgate then capturing supplies? (Not sure if feasible, I'm relatively new and unfamiliar with that mechanic.)

Depends on population for the most part.

Need a pretty big player advantage to cap anything in the UK, because you get tank camped FAST there lol

I suggest England be removed from the map entirely.

Nobody wants to spend 95 min aboard a freighter sitting in their Opel along with two Tigers and a 251 only to be taken out by ONE hurricane's bomb load a mere 2km from the shore.

Did I do that the night before last along with 7 other guys? Yes. Did I fall asleep while en route and sitting in my parked Opel? Yes. It was between 0200-0330 after all. I woke up to everyone yelling on TS and despawned as well.

We flew a bunch of JU52s over today, and even though I successfully landed my load of paras ON THE GROUND, a pan rolled out and along with a couple of EI, wiped out the whole party.

Really, CRS... Nobody wants to spend hours in exercises in futility like this. Take England off the map and just focus on France.

Or...

-Freighters, destroyers and Fairmilles are spawn points.

-Loading the freighter is as simple as driving up to the open door and hitting "z" where a box opens up and asks, "Would you like to load on the ship?" -click yes and you are in the hold. Hit "z" again and you;re outside the ship.

-JU52s can spawn paras.

These would help.

Or have GHC NOT AO it.

Solves that problem pretty quickly.

Under the current FRU rules, which I agree with, England is basically not able to be capped*, and that's fine.

*except when there's 2 or 3 allied players on.

almost every town on the map has a forward base...  well add forward bases that appear "close" to the town ...   solved... there will one heck of a battle at everyone..  both sides will park trucks and engys ..

There also...  multi types of landing crafts.. from the "ducks"  to the Higgins boats...  to LST...    have a transport beach its self and press a deploy to open the front doors and Walaaaa   Fb on the beach .. make it now be sapped  to remove ..  not bombed ..   When the TT is spwned  the game asks what unit that is located in the city that it would supply ..  and limit it to 2 TT alive per unit.. thus elimante the 10 tt in a row along dover shores..

Invading England it's supposed to be tough stuff. And that's coherent with the truck-FRUs and all the "no-magic-army-appearing-anywhere-please" petitions. So when I read sometimes the suggestions of make the paras magically appear on the plane... Well.

I did not support the ban of the infantry-FRUs (it should have been better to keep them just for rifles or something like that, I think) but since now we have this, we have to be coherent with them.

I support tho that with those future "bunkered" FRUS, maybe allowing the fairmilles to make them and increasing the TT speed could be affordable changes.

But anyway invading UK should be very rare to see if the population level is "normal".

it's factories and towns should be removed from the victory conditions... or at least have less value to the allied side.

not like axis have a 20 town area captured 1:50 camps. the late game suck gets dragged on too long for allies.

Operation Sea Lion was virtually impossible. It should remain that way. No impossible, but improbable.

And none of this insta-warp army from a fru stuff. That's just lame.

Right, like the six FRUs and the constant stream of infantry spewing froth from holes int he ground outside of Oostmalle?

Come on, man... FRUs are OK.

Truck FRUs are best, but invading England is just not a viable option in this game currently.

If the tables were turned and you had to invade France from England at the start of the campaign... as in the D-Day landings, you'd be singing a different tune. That would kill the game, as it does in the end of the map when flags are stacked in France along the western shore.

What's so wrong with having TTs and DDs as spawn points? Seems more normal than a couple of boxes...

I have no problem with Transport spawn points. I'm ok with truck spawns. But I always thought dropping 20 mission leaders from a plane over ANY target was lame.

I would really like to see a Higgins boat spawn point. Now THAT's how to hit a beach.

Ah, I agree... but it was really the only way to make anything happen from either England to France or vice-versa.

Oh, man.. a Higgins craft would be radical. Of course... the potential for cabby to sit and just shoot his Sherm's MGs into the open gate makes it a non-starter for me.

Bad enough that the FRU boxes spawn everyone in the exact same place, without channeling them all out of an open gate 7 or so ft wide. All anyone would have to do is set up where they can MG the four or five landing craft and the attack would be done. Worse, even a Fairmille could just lob HE onto them from 2000M away and it would be donesville. I can't imagine a Higgins boat taking more than one HE round from a 3-lber.

Are there any FB from Ramsgate and Sandwich on the beaches that can be captured as usual?  That will make possible to capture the beach and have a place to start an invasion.

I naturally assumed a couple DD's would be there for defense. But... we all know what "assume" means.

I love the epic challenge of England in this game.  Even in a simulated WWII online experience, England is still hard if not impossible to conquer.  Just how it should be, Now in the future lets see what they will do with Russia or Italy or even the Mediterranean.  The games map still has to be filled  :)

I agree that England should be tough and I normally wouldn't give a hoot-n-holler about invading that island if we had the USSR to capture instead, which was the reason that the weight of Germany's historical attack on England declined considerably by late 1941; if Germany kept their end of the Molotov-Ribbontrop Pact longer, then it is likely that England would have suffered greater losses than they did and perhaps would have been invaded -- even successfully. In this game, England is a unique part of the map with towns that we don't know as well (we don't fight in them often or at all) and hence present more interest. So, I wish they would at least make invasion more likely if for no other reason than keeping newcomers from becoming 'bored with France'  or  seeing a void of any opportunity to ever participate in such an invasion (attack or defense) within their handful of months (or even year) of playing WWIIO before they move on to another game.
