We Need Medics!

oh this game needs lots of intelligent non combat AI. it is a much more important feature/functionality set than medics. intelligent AI could power the naval game as an example. you would need spawn into/out of the AI 'held together' convoy/flotilla but it would work. AI could drive on map supply from the factory to the front. AI trains, etc. Of course kilemall and others are going to scream and moan for some ww2 train simulator but they're wrong too. this game is about combined arms COMBAT, not train simulation, not for living out some hacksaw ridge fantasy, its about shooting something else dead before it shoots you.

 

there is nothing wrong with AI, this game and much of its playerbase gets blinded by some idiotic 'realism' ideology yet many don't understand that iron sights and some attempt to model reality is in many cases less realistic than cross hairs which are themselves an analog for all the inputs that you get from your body and the environment every second that a keyboard, mouse, and monitor just can't deliver. many of you would rather have a tiny niche game that conforms to your vision of what constitutes 'realism' alienating yourselves from the larger market in an attempt to be the king fish of the mud puddle.  there is nothing massively multipayer about that vision.

 

that said, you're absolutely high [censored] balls if you think this thread or all the threads about medics combined equal a sum total number of players large enough to buy Xoom a beer let alone the orgy of high price escorts he and the rest of the remaining team rightfully deserve for keeping this game alive and pushing it forward.

 

a medic class would do absolutely NOTHING to improve the quality of this game. it won't draw players. it won't retain players. where is this so called line of folks wanting to play medic? why aren't those same folks in game right now driving trucks around?

Look. I'm not debating you about bots. i've played WWII games where bots filled empty spaces when there was side imbalance and I was perfectly fine with it.

As far as support players? We exist. I get in game and do what I can when I can. I have run OVER a hundred sorties in a single night and died every time without a SINGLE kill or cap, but I was supporting the guys who did by driving and setting MSPs and handing them off to those players who DO like to fight. I'm not the only one who plays support. Bloodybill is well known for spending the majority of his time doing nothing but blowing FBs.

But a BIG part of the reason that you don't see that line in game every day is that when we DO log in, Combat players are screaming at us to do what they do. Not everyone is as willing to swim against the stream as I am, so they just go along and sometimes chime in their support of an idea like Medics. It's not as if they have the option of playing support anyway, now do they?

Oh and as far as youtr statement of what this game is about? " its about shooting something else dead before it shoots you." ? That may be true for YOU, but it's not true for me. For me it's about SUPPORTING my side in any capacity I LIKE and am halfway decent at at, and after 4 years, I still contribute, and my K/D is LESS than .2 .

I'm not going to insult you, but I'm also not going to try to actually discuss this with you anymore. Your response shows that you have less than zip respect for my opinions or ideas, and I suspect even less for me personally. Bots or no bots, You respect effective combat players, and the last thing that you want is anyone in the game who isn't going to enjoy  the same kind of run and gun play that you do. That's your outlook,  and you're welcome to it; but at the end of the day it won't get rid of me or change my mind.

And if I ever DO meet XOOM, you can bet I'd be happy to buy him a beer, and I'm just one old man.

1st off Madrebel you are wrong. The Axis side used to have a Squad dedicated to nothing but the support role. The name of the Squad escapes me .  I know one of my online friends Imbrutus was in that squad. She did nothing but drive HT and haul 88s to the front line.

Heck my 1st 4 to 5 ranks were achieved doing the none combat part of the game . When CRS still gave points for hauling ATGs and Troops to the frontline.

 

Now to the Medic part , I always thought what for a Medic. Most EI don't survive long enough once engaged with another EI.

But then I thought about it. What about ATG and AAA . Often one bullet takes one crew member out and either you are stuck where u are at cause the commander is dead or the gun became us less cause the gunner is dead.

Now with a Medic he could actually run to that AAA or ATG and not revive the dead crew member but replace him so to speak.

A message would pop up stating ,

MEDIC has replaced crew member and the unit is fully functional again.

The Medic could do that maybe 4 times aka having 4 Health/ Healing packs. Before he needs to resupply himself. 

You say that is stupid? Not anymore far fetched then Engineers building a bridge without heavy equipment all while under fire from Tanks and Enemy Infantry.

Or a 2 man crew of an AAA or ATG being rendered completely useless because of one bullet ,when everybody knows these guns were manned by more then 2 crew members

It's silly enough that one can't replace the other if one crew member dies. 

What eould it take to implement a Medic not much , Red cross on a Helmet ,an armband with the red cross and the load out that he carries.

Maybe something like this :

4 medi packs

4 smoke grenades

A pistol just so he can defend himself

He should not be able to cap CP's or AB's. 

Maybe 5 per Brigade  so players will use them with utmost respect and try to keep them alive . 

I think this would go a long way especially for Defending forces with ATG's set up for defence . 

Yes over the years there were countless posts about Medics and I bet none of these players play the game anymore just for that one reason cause they were never implemented.

There is a way to make use of them you just have to think outside the box like Quincannon did. 

I like his idea.

Well, there are some players.  When I played BHD, I was almost exclusively a medic (ah, the memories of batgirl and I).  I came to this game fully expecting to play medic, but there was none.  I slowly moved over to the navy role and shelling factories (a support role?), but of course that has been removed, so now I just meander about in game.  I've also overstocked 1000s of units in my time here (another support role?).

Tanking and flying are ludicrous for axis side imo, so that is not a play option for me.  atm I'm starting to dabble in ATG, now that we have truck MSP and they can spawn in the field.
