Discord Initial Setup

11 posts in this topic

Greetings,

This post is going to go over the initial set up of Discord and how to quickly start using voice communication.  Also, there will be a FAQ section to help users finely tune their Discord Experience!

Step 1) Please go to http://www.battlegroundeurope.net/discord

Step 2) Once you have clicked on either the Allied or Axis Discord link you will be directed to a page that will provide an invitation to the appropriate Discord server.  Please accept the invitation at this point and time and it will direct you to log-in/registration page.

Step 3) If you have a Discord account you may enter your log-in information at this time.  If you do not have an account please click on "Register" and you will be provided with information on how to successfully set up an account.

Step 4) If you completed the previous steps successfully you should have entered the appropriate Discord server and will now be able to communicate with other players. The example provided displays WWIIOnline - Axis.  If you choose to join the Allied server it will say: WWIIOnline-Allied.

Step 5) Once you have entered the server you will see your nickname/Microphone Icon/Headset Icon/User Settings located on the bottom left portion of the server. The microphone and headset icons will allow you to mute/un-mute each as you desire. The User Settings icon will allow you to adjust a multitude of options within the Discord server.

For those who haven't used discord before, I recommend to download the app first before following the invitation link (https://discordapp.com/apps). I had some errors trying to follow the invitation links without the actual app. In your case it looks like you had it already pre-installed.

I got it to work, and found I had some corrupt Windows files.

I have reinstalled windows and am back on track.

XOOM even worked with me one-on-one to try and get it to work, and that helped to figure out the problem.

Apologies for assuming my OS was intact and fully functional; with Windows I should know better.

Look... I know it's free for you guys to host a server there, but the software is chit.

Maybe we should wait until they have it actually working before implementing it to WWIIOL.

It's garbage.

Just because you and handful of others are having issues, doesn't mean the software is bad.

Discord peaked at 2.3 million weekly concurrent users last year.  You think the software is garbage, so it must be garbage, right?? Give me a break.

OK, break given.

I was wrong, because my OS was in rough shape and unbeknownst to me, Windows updater had quit MONTHS ago.

Who knows why, but it stopped looking for and applying updates and it ended up with a bunch of registry key corruptions.

Discord is working now.

Glad you got it all figured out @vasduten1, hope it's all smooth sailing from here. S!

It works OK, but without voice activation allowed it's a no-go for most of my squad.

As I mentioned to you in private message, we can configure your squad channel to be allowed for voice activation. Tell us which squad (channel) to update and we'll make it so.

The whole server by default will be PTT unless otherwise requested by individual squads only.
