WWII Online on 2 Screens

16 posts in this topic

When I do my sapper guide or any other guides, I always hated that CRS got rid of the possibility to have a window mode and being able to move the game on my 2nd monitor.

So after testing and trying with virtual PCs, I succeeded, but the fps sucked big time. I can do my sapper guide with low fps, but nothing else. So I went back and searched again. Also in this forum, but there is only information dated 2009. I also couldn't find anyone who is interested in doing so, so maybe I'm the only one...

Sorry Potthead, I could only manage to do 2 screens solutions and not 5 or 6 ;-)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So here is my solution and it works if you follow my steps and have a resolution of 1920x1xxx.

  • Download this program and unzip it: DxWnd
  • Start your 1st wwiiol the normal way
  • Start dxwnd.exe
  • There should be a green dot and the words "wwiiol secondary screen"
    >> ifnot drag "wwiiol_2nd_Screen.dxw" into the window
  • Start your 2nd wwiiol
    >> it should open on the 2nd screen

I kept the 2nd wwiiol smaller (1600x900), so you could have discourd open on side or other tools. How you change this, see below.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If your resolution is different then 1920x1080, do the following changes:

  • Start dxwnd.exe
  • Right click on " wwiiol secondary screen", then modify
  • on "Main" you see "Window initial position & size" change that
  • on "Video" you see "Initial resolution" adapt it accordingly
  • click OK
  • Start your 2nd wwiiol

This changes have to be done only once if you save them when you close the program (it asks).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me know if this was helpfull.

an easy route that used to work, can't see why it wouldn't still, is to launch the game then alt tab and then make your second screen the 'primary" within the windows display settings. then launch the second instance and bam, you have it on two screens.

I'm sure it could be scripted in order to make it much easier to do but thats the basics.

I tried that sniper and when you switch the prime screen the game switches to that side.

Also this way the game is not full sized and you still can see Discord and other tools. ;-)

ya, I've been messing with it for the past hour or so and when you do the primary change, it plays havoc with the mouse input as well so it makes things tough.

You're little program works for the purpose, it just took some tweaking to get it over to the proper screen. Good Job!

ps. i spoke with the DEVs and even though you can actually get the game into a "windowed" mode, it's not draggable so it kinda useless. Something more to add in a ticket about.

Parasit - didn't get to try it yet. Had my mom in town but will try tonight after hockey.

Unfortunately, I remain on allied side for this map. I'm considering a switch for a map or two in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Is there a way to turn off game sound in one instance? Nothing worse than hearing a tank creeping up on you and it is actually in another town

launch instance one, get in game.

launch instance 2, before spawning, kill volume in it in prefs.

before exiting instance one blip volume slider to resave volume pref

Yes, this works fine...was thinking about a command line option for the game itself.

I can confirm that this works great..having 2 windows up is awesome.

I did not get to try your way but i was able to do the following

The game sees my 2 video outputs as separate video cards (so to speak)

The both have same name of course, but one is screen one, and one is screen 2
So i found i could launch game 1, get it loaded and spawn in
tab out open settings, set video to 2nd instance of my card and save.
Launch playgate again and enter game, and it came up on screen 2.
alt tab back to game 1 and its on screen 1.

have to tab back n forth but it did work.
But i do not know if all video cards/drivers appear to the game in that way.
Mines an ATI card, bit older one.

Sometimes its easier to use a craptastic laptop, even if it only gets 3fps, cause i dont have to tab to nudge the other unit around
