Para Engineers

4 posts in this topic

Just as the title states, any chance we can get engineer parachutist to be be able to destroy FB’s and bridges and also probably rebuild bridges? I’d like to see more parachute missions in this game doing what they’rw Design to do jump behind line and break stuff!

Fun for the one para. Disruptive for overall gameplay.

It'd make it impossible to move the game toward behind-the-lines road/rail supply lines, because they'd always be cut by Rambo paras.

All Rambo actions that realistically should be teamwork efforts, should be teamwork efforts.  Rambo actions that mostly didn't happen that way historically, shouldn't in-game either.

Plus, the "rebuild" part would be especially unrealistic.

The one para engineer is going to drop with 200 tons of mixed cement and 100 tons of structural steel, plus the heavy equipment to install it all that presumably arrives via road or rail...? He'll make a bit of a thud when he lands.

Paras were more designed to jump the lines and hold stuff for a very short period of time (hours/days). With bridges they actually prevented them from being destroyed by demolition charges rigged by the defenders.

But the reason we should have para engineers is that unlike in real life it's very easy to make a one-way suicide mission since players can respawn. Hence missions start looking more and more comical  compared to what would be done in real life.

You can actually do what you propose right now. Load up a transport full of engineers and fly to an FB or bridge of your choosing. It takes a skilled pilot to be able to land amongst the trees right next to the FB. Rare to find them. Rumor was that the 31st had a guy who would do air landing FB busts. Rumor is he loved Stukas too. ;)
