enemy position placements on map

13 posts in this topic

when placing an enemy position on a map it would be very useful to have maybe a "place-drag arrow-drop" function where you can place the enemy tanks position on the map and then drag and drop an arrow coming out from it in the direction the tank is heading.  At present everyone just spams 4 or 5 et's in the direction the tank is moving which comes annoying, and spammy very quickly.

I been missing such a feature. Not sure it is easy to add though. Hopefully it's.

<Brainstorming>

Or adding a "confirmed" feature by clicking existing reports. Report icons would fade out in 1 minute (instead of the current 5?) but the timer would reset every time it gets a new click (max 1 click per player per report per minute). The icon would show the original spotter as the list of those that confirmed it, and hown long ago.

This would further improve situational awareness and reward team play.

Mobilize support now and help the team move faster towards such features !

not relevant...... marks wont stay in any position long enough for any of that to be functionally realistic

Just adapt the lifetime of the report if you believe the 1 minute is too short.

But drawing arrows is useless since the information is already outdated 30 seconds later. Furthermore, most of time a movement is towards the town (attacker) or FMS/FB (defender), thus easily predicted

movement generally stays in the same direction for a few mins........ vag as it may be.  position with general direction is simpler and more effective over time than several placements reinforced by observations....... and alot less work for the mission leader..... not to mention alot less spam.  Though either system is an improvement over the current I guess.

Post scriptum allows to report directly by pinpointing with the binocs IIRC. That could also be useful.

Another idea, From planetside2, is the situation awareness regarding "shots". It's an instant circle drawed for half a second over the map where someone shot a bullet or a round.

I recall how it was in the beginning. ML had to confirm reports by anyone spotting, and a mouseover showed type, spotter and time. If reports were not confirmed, they would not appear on the map. It stressed the heck out of the ML, whose leadership energy was diverted and drained when it was needed the most.

I preferred the old skool no-GPS map. No marks. No ”this is your position” heading and range circles. No realtime friendly team member map icons. THAT promoted teamwork because you had to stick close to someone who could navigate. More gizmos leads to more lonewolfing.

No to 2000s computerized network systems transplanted to WWII games.  Smog of war with screwups on reports FTW.

We have shot awareness, it's called audio.  Use the ears like a WWII soldier, not a starship trooper in powered armor with integral computers.

WWII sim.  No.  Really.

I'm pretty sure this sort of thing was nixed by Rats 1.0 along with any other drawing tools because of the potential for players to draw sexual anatomy parts on the map.

Rats 2.0 might be up for it, but only if you have a pre-defined arrow that can't be 'abused'.

I was describing a "thumb up" feature " from other players, like on the IRL Waze app when a driver reports something.
