game freezes and computer shuts down

40 posts in this topic

At completely random times about 20 minutes after starting up the game my screen turns black and my computer restarts. This has never happened until today, and I just installed my new AC97 soundcard drivers. Could that be it?

Update: I realized it happens more when i am in or around a tank, also i was just in a tank before i lagged out and didnt hear the engine

Hmmmm, sounds like a voltage issue, or maybe a heat issue.

What kind of vid card do you have?

Do you have a program that monitors your heat temperatures?

Ok, I have been having the same problem. I start the game, when I play infantry the game runs fine, but as soon as I get into a plane or tank, the game freezes and restarts itself. I know it is not my power supply, as I had just bought a new one to run my Geforce 7800GT PCI exp card and and the voltage is right and so are the amps. I am still having this problem.

If you get crashes in anything with an engine it's usually sound related. Make sure you can cause the crash in offline mode. If so, go into WWII Online settings and uncheck "enable sound" and see if you can still make it crash. If so, you know it's sound related.

I also do have some sound related crashes and I have a SB Audigy2 Platinum. I think that card should be able to run this game.

ok, so I updated my sound driver... no luck, so it looks like I can't play this game anymore :( it was a good run while it lasted. 4 years playing was a good run eh? :)

It could be a sys temp issue as well - same symptoms, I'd check my system temp if your h/w supports it. I ended up opening my case and putting a box fan next to it - been running wwiiol for several months like this until I finally got a new rig.

LOL NO way in hell I am gonna buy another new comp. again just to play WW2Online, besides this comp should be more than enough to run this game. This comp is only 1 month old. lol

My power supply Specifications:

Input Voltage Range: 100~240Vac

Input Frequency Range: 50~60Hz

Max. Load +3.3v / +5V +12V1 / +12V2 -12V / +5VSB

30A / 28A / 18A / 18A / 1A / 2A

erichs, do you know for sure that it's sound related? Earlier you posted that you thought I was right about it being sound. Are you saying that if you uncheck "enable sound" that you cannot get it to crash?

if its restarting try this..

goto Start/ control panel/system/advanced/ start up and recovery click settings at the bottom/ and uncheck automaticlly restart/ click ok.

that will show any blue screen and not just restart your computer.

i had alot of random rebooting when i first built my computer. this helped me out alot.

I noticed you have Sound HW acceleration on Full..reducing sound HW accel when using onboard sound has always been a good place to start when trying to 'fix' a sound issue in this game. You may also want to try reducing Sound options in the setting UI if you haven't already.

ok, when I did turn the sound off in my settings, the game did not freeze up but, I didn't play the game long without the sound, so....... maybe that didn't fix the problem. sometimes the game can go for a little bit before the game crashes while playing a tank or plane.. but rarely.

oh and one more bit of info... when speedfan program... it say my HD is hot, but it doesn't over heat for any other games I play online. Don't know if that is useful or not. If that is the problem..then I guess I am still screwd for this game?

Did anyone find a solution to this? I'm having the exact same problem with the GEForce 6800. It's only when I'm in a tank, however, I couldn't make it happen while I was in Area 51. I have a brand new comp which should handle the game very well. If anyone has more suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I just got back in and I'm Jones'n.

goncode, does your computer reboot or does the game just lock up (and you can Ctrl-Alt-Del out of it)? This thread is specifically about the computer rebooting randomly. If you're not rebooting, but the game is just crashing, then that's a different bug that has a fix in beta right now and will be part of the 1.23.0 release of the game.

It would auto restart, which I have turned off. The error refers to drivers and/or hardware. I have installed all the recent drivers and have made some changes in the settings. The hardware is 2 days old. I can play infantry, just won't work with armor or air. So far it only happens when I play BE. It appears others have had the same probs, was wondering what they did to correct it.
