Laptop Video Cards that work and that don't

101 posts in this topic

I would like to get a list of laptop video cards that will run the game, as well as those that will not.

If you can definitively say that a particular laptop video option will or will not run the game, please list it here and its status.

Thanks.

Problem with laptops often isn't the card's capability, it's overheating. The confines don't work well for venthilation.

I believe it's common knowledge that the ATI Radeon X200 does not work, or gets < 8FPS in optimal conditions.

I run a HP with a Gforce 5800

and a ALienware Area 51m (old model) with a ATI Mob 9000 that still runs it but on low settings.

Mostly use the HP for 3rd account.

I play on my Dell 9300 laptop with nVidia GO 6800 - 1.75 Intel M Centrino with 1.0 GB of 1.05 GHz ram. All eye candy turned on at 1440x900x32 (widescreen). Great framerates in all vehicles, even in crowded areas.

ATI Mobility Cards will give you problems with respect to updates from the manufacturers if it is OEM......

The ATI drivers you get from Omega will solve some of the problems, but not all..

The newest cards will be fine... but anything older such as 9600, 9700... you may have issues with drivers and picture (psychedelic trees... black bushes... etc)

This has been my experience.

Gateway ML-32 AMD Turion 64

1.5 GB RAM

Radeon X200 64MB shared 6.2 Omega drivers.

1.21 - 8-12fps

1.22 - CTD upon launch

Radeon Mobility 9600 Works decently.

THough the damm game starts upside down every time and unlike the desktop version, the orientation has to be reset manually.

I custom build ASUS notebooks for clients.

i currently have for myself an ASUS A7JC with an ATI X1600 256MB video card and it ROCKS in game.

PM me if you would like a quote on a notebook.

dell 9300 with 1.7 pentium M and geforce6800 handles the game well. And would handle it REALLY well if I took better care of it. (Defragged harddrive, kept all drivers up to date, stopped downloading porn)

new 9400s with dual core and 7800 probably KICK ***.

My Ati x300 64mb Mobility works fine.

Also its 1.6 GHz Pentium M

1.2Gig DDr2 So-dimm

40gig HD

Game works very well for me, No lag when flying.

Defrag alot and have programs in the background turned off.

Also keep my registry and Disk in shape.

Fujitsu-siemens Amilo A

amd 64 3200+ (I think, might be 3400)

512 mb ram (sort of what keeps me away from playing on it)

ati mobility 9700

haven't tried the latest version of the game and I'm not sure if my omega drivers are up to date, but I had some graphical errors that made some models look strange (you could see the triangles and some other stuff). the game did run other than that... and since I don't have a whole lot of ram it was too slow to fly so I haven't tried that.

btw. will the new graphics engine change the demand for tons of ram or is that because of the games nature?

Dell latitude D810

ATI-X600

1 Mb Ram

runs the infantry game at 20-30 FPS on:

1280*1024*16

2D sound

MAX player viz limit

No radial clutter

No anti-aliasing

rest pretty much on...

Cant say it runs stable or not since I don't use this rig a lot to play the game.

Geforce FX 5600 Go 64MB plays the game, not great, but well enough for occasional use.

1280 x 1024 res used.

The machine is an Acer Aspire 1705 (3Ghz P4, 1 gig ram, 17" normal aspect screen).
