Laptop Video Cards that work and that don't

101 posts in this topic

Apple Powerbook G4 15inch

1.25 Ghz

1 Gb RAM

1280 x 854

ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 (64mb)

Runs WW2OL... barely.

Post render filter won't work, and the water doesn't reflect anything.

Otherwise, game runs normally, except for brutally low FPS ( ~5-20)

Back in the day, (pre1.2) I was trying to get the game to run on my aspire 1350 [VIA KM400] laptop, but ran into difficulties because the crappy video card wouldn't support OpenGL.

After some searching I found some software called 'GLDirect' http://www.scitechsoft.com/

It worked for me untill 1.2, quality was poor but the game was playable. See if its any help. GL

I really appreciate this thread:

Im looking to buy a laptop soon, depending on how much cash I blow through for the Con next weekend :)

Right now out of the big box stores Im leaning towards the Toshiba Quosmios with nvidia cards in the 2300 price range.

I dont really feel good about ordering one through the mail, I dont have the expertise to fix any problems that might arise and dealing with it over the phone and through the mail is less than appealing. I find face to face confrontations get issues resolved much more quickly.

Will check out Mad's link.

This Aint Happening! Yep, Here how it goes for me: Downloaded the game, installed, made the account and finaly launched the game, and what happends. The damn thing crashes at the load up screen. Tried few more times with the same result. So, I did what I always do in this kind of a situation. I headed my self to these forums to get help, and what do i found? First topic I read, and it says the game just wont work on my computer, because I have that damn ATI MOBILITY RADEON XPRESS 200 (with 128mb mem.). Argh! I Cant believe this. This is just my luck.

But anyway, to make this clear to me. Is there ANY chance? Some exact drivers maybe? Anything? Cmon wizards, save my day! :)

(My computers main info below )

Mobile AMD Sempron 3000+

1 gb ram mem.

little slice of hard drive

OS: XP Home

Audio: Conexant AMC Audio (yeah, neither do I have no F'cking idea what that is :P)

My Radeon Xpress 200M notebook is working with the newest drivers from ATI. I was peaking at 17 FPS and averaging around 12 FPS. I think that if my drive weren't a 4200 RPM drive I could hover around 16-18 FPS.

Note: I have 1.5 gigs of RAM in this laptop and have virtual memory turned off.

Well' date=' some players have posted that they've solved ATI boot issues by using ATI Tray Tools and disabling Z-Compression: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733

I haven't heard of anyone trying them with the mobility 200.

I have the TrayTools installed on my laptop, but they wouldn't initialize with the Omega drivers. I'll go and try them now and see what I can squeeze out of my laptop.

I haven't heard of anyone trying them with the mobility 200.

I downloaded ATI Tray Tools and installed it. Bad idea. I got a "stop error" (blue screen with a bunch of words on it, something about memory dump). Then the machine would reboot, and as it was booting up another stop error. Endless loop. Over and over about 30 times!

I finally figured out how to get to safe mode and remove ATI Tray tools. Machine insisted on sending Microsoft a message telling them all about it. It insisted on doing so over and over too. About 30 times I figure.

So, in conclusion, trying it with the mobility 200 is not advised. :)

Whew!

Just got a toshiba qosmio with a geforce7300 video. I upped the ram to 2gb, set compatability to NT, disabled the QoS as currently suggested, and upped my pagefile to 3000min/max.

Was just in game in St Hubert with medium activity, friendly tanks, atgs, infantry running around and pulled 40-60fps over a verizon wireless pc card connection.

This rocks, and Im soooo going to get fired.....
