Incredible 1940 photo album

31 posts in this topic

This one will go high, 4 figures no problem at all.

Photo's have sky rocketed in price the last few years, there's some truly silly money being thrown about, over $500 for a single photo of a Me109 for example.

BTW, most of the German photos are to be found on German E-bay, unfortunately some unscrupulous sellers like to buy up albums then rip out all the photos and sell then individually to increase profit. Thankfully this album is at least still in one piece...at least for now.

The barrel for a French heavy artillery piece of one sort or another, perhaps Pachy will know what type.

BTW, much of the French heavy artillery captured in 1940 ended up being used in coastal artillery positions. A lot of French armour was also put into German service.

Editing out a Swastika, maybe?

Yup, have to edit the swas. It'll make your hair fall out should you unexpectedly *gasp* catch a glimpse of it in all it's horror.

Its an illegal symbol in Germany, so you have to edit it out regardless if its history or not. I dont agree with it, but thats the law in some places.

Edit: I have to find the pictures I have that my uncle gave me. He was in Patton's 3rd army, and had some very interesting photos. A knocked out Tiger, pictures of an overrun LW airfield, the field mods on his recon jeep (they welded steel plates on it to stop small arms fire). If I find them, I'll run over to my friends house and have him scan them for me.

Always nice to see original pics :-)

The swas isn't just illegal in Germany but in several other European countries, same goes for the SS runes, the SA's symbol (forget what that's called) and a few others iirc. A bit of googling will find them.

Just browse through German E-bay at any given time, you'll see thousands of photos for sale, most of them private. It'll give you a pretty good idea about who they were, how they lived etc.
