Okay, since it's clearly not your video card doing this.. I believe that it's sound related.

First set the game to use your sound card and not the primary sound driver, secondary the AC97 is an onboard sound card and such are by default never good when the game itself requires allot from the CPU, try using less sounds in settings (you can even test once with no sounds on to see if your fps improves).

Also I am not sure if you are running the latest motherboard drivers, if you don't know 100% do a reinstall of the latest nForce drivers.

In nvidia control panel go to 3d settings and make sure this is off

OpenGL Threading: This option appears to control the use of multithreading optimization for OpenGL games on Dual Core/HyperThreading systems. The available settings are Auto, On and Off. I would strongly recommend the default option of Auto, allowing the drivers to set this appropriately for various games based on your hardware. However if you are running an OpenGL game (e.g. Doom 3, Quake 4 or Prey) on a dual core/HT system and experiencing problems, you can force this to Off for troubleshooting purposes.

hope this will help.

This game, as stated many times before, is not GPU intense. The most important thing is the CPU although the GPU is important as well. And you may have bottlenecked your CPU with the GPU as well.

Did you uninstall all old drivers delete them and reinstall the new ones? I would raise your setting to the MAX settings and perhaps run 2xq AA and 2x AF and see if that does anything. The higher the settings takes some of the load off the CPU and puts it on the GPU.

And you are using onboard sound which takes resources from the CPU to run the sound. Make sure if you aren't going to use a soundcard you have the sound settings low.

i did what you said and it seemed to work, then when i got remotly near a battle i had 3 fps for a good 30 secs straght got frustrated and shut it off

Run the game in 32-bit color rather than 16-bit color.

resolution 1152x864x32 instead of 1152x864x16

tryed it, for some reason it runs better in 32 bit

My video card is slightly inferior to yours (7900GT), yet my FPS *never goes below 25-30* usually 50-70fps, goes up to 90 fps on the ground when I'm in an empty area; up to 120+fps in the air; I have all settings to maximum; maximum radial clutter, etc; 1280x1024. I play the game with 4xAA (+gamma-correction & transparency AA), and 16xAF.

I am *not* using the OpenGL threading tweak, though I am admittedly unsure as to what impact it has on the game.

You should of course be playing this game, all games, and be running your desktop at 32bit. I have absolutely no idea why you wouldn't.

Now why am I getting better FPS than you at maximum settings with 4xAA and 16xAF, yet your video card is better than mine???

Here's why:

Your CPU is low-end.

You're using onboard sound.

- You have an AMD 3500+?

It's been said over and over and over in the forums; this game relies more on the CPU than any other component. That means your CPU will influence your FPS more than anything else.

The truth is you're using a low-end CPU, and that CPU is bottle-necking your video card. The performance you're saying you get isn't surprising at all and I don't know why people would be puzzled over it. With that CPU, your low performance is normal and expected.

You will *NOT* get significantly better performance until you upgrade that CPU.

- You're using onboard audio; this can significantly reduce your performance because it means that your CPU is working harder and you don't have a dedicated audio card to handle sound processing. Once again, the difference between having a sound card and using onboard audio is SIGNIFICANT.

You should not expect "great" FPS while using onboard audio, and combined with the fact that you have a low-end CPU, it means that your performance is going to suffer; the CPU is already struggling, it shouldn't have to deal with additional stress because you don't have a sound card.

You want better FPS; bottom line, it doesn't matter what video card you have as long as you have a low-end CPU and onboard sound.

You need a new CPU and a soundcard.

My specs?

video card: 7900GT

RAM: 1gig DDR2

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @2.67ghz

sound card: Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2

motherboard: Intel D975XBX

PSU: XCLIO Greatpower 600W

BTW:

i just bought a 7950gt and got it working finaly...

so i turned on ww2 online to see my new found FPS... well i start playing and... ITS THE SAME AS IT WAS with my x800 gto!

This is called bottle-necking. It means that your FPS has reached a limit due to your CPU and lack of a soundcard. Bottle-necking in your case means that no matter how high-end your video card is, it will be artificially limited in how much FPS it gives you because the CPU and onboard sound are preventing it from working at its full potential.

Except for the fact that ive seen 3200+'s run the game at a nice solid 30-35fps with all the goodies turned on, and in big battles.

A 3500+ should be atleast that capable.

Long as he isnt trying to turn 200fps benchmarks, his cpu is more than capable of running the game properly.

Single digit FPS is definately not how it should be running on his CPU and Video, 30-40 fps should not be a problem.

Than your system is full of junk running in background. Reset PC and start task manager and see what you your CPU usage and FP usage and how many processes is your system running. Shut down everything you don't need when playing.

There can be milion things when it come to pc performance.

Also, try lowering 'Max # of Sounds' in Audio settings to 32 or 16, instead of 64. That AC97 isn't going to process that many sounds in hardware so the CPU gets to do it....

HTH

You've seen 3200+'s do this recently?

I don't mean to question whether or not you've actually seen this, but I doubt that a 3200+ could run the game at max settings, high player vis limit, and get 30-35 FPS in big battles. If it was able to do so, it would certainly have to have a standalone sound card.

The most recent patches have decreased performance not increased it; I don't think a 3200+ could do it as of today's version.

I take claims like that with a grain of salt as IMO they or bloated way out of proportion. I AVERAGE around 40 FPS and I would consider my system to be mid high end. Settings in game are maxed except for radial clutter disabled. I run 4x AA and 4x AF @ 1280x1024 75mhx vsync. In my nvidia settings I have it set to supersampling, trilinear, and high quality for the picture (which are settings that alot of people leave out).

I have 3dmark 03 and 05 scores of 24k and 11.8k respectivley. So please don't say my drivers or whatever are what is causing me to have the same FPS and these lower end claims state.

System:

AMD Opteron 170 320x9 @ 2.88g 1.475v

DFI LP SLI-DR Nforce 4

2x1g Gskill PC4000 3-4-4-8 250Mhz

Evga 7900GTO running @ 711/784 stock air

Soundblaster XiFi Platinum

WD Raptor 74g HD

As I stated I get AVERAGE 40-50 FPS, it does go higher but that is the average. And in some town when it is heavy I may drop to high 20's or 30's.

Now I can turn some settings off and get 180FPS in open terrain or 90+ in heavy terrain but I like the visual goodies. Those are FACTUAL numbers and not fairy tales.

Instead of saying the "I get 40 FPS in this game with such and such" let's see some benchmark scores like 3dmark03 or 05 and then we can talk turkey.;)

ADM Athlon64 3500+ is the bottleneck? Come on... This is a good processor. I want to play the game in a home computer' date=' not a NASA one.[/quote']

I also have a AMD 64 3500+ (with GF6800 and 2GB ram) and while not a bad CPU I still consider it the current bottleneck in my system. A "good" CPU today is a dual-core one with 1MB or more cache.
