I've just started getting these recently. I notice that EA are warping all over the place, then i'll cthl or just ctd a few mins afterwards. Sometimes i can make it back to base, but have the old riddler flag problem and get an MIA parked next to the af bunker.

Annoying.

Those are silent drops and reconnects.

One very common cause of CTHLs is various pieces of software auto-updating themselves, especially Adobe, Macromedia, Sun Java and Auto-updates.

A lot of these updates will eat your connection and then fail themselves - the fact that you're not web-browsing is considered "idle" so they contend games and even each other. Result: You get CTHLed in game and then when you go to look (e.g. task manager) nothing is happening because they've temporarily given up. Then you go back into your game and a little while later they kick up again just long enough to trash your connection and then quit again.

One way to fix these is to go to www.microsoft.com and search for AutoRuns. Unlike msconfig and other "startup management" tools, this actually shows you all the crap Windows is running on startup. Uncheck all the Macromedia/Adobe/Apple/Java stuff you don't need (don't delete it, just uncheck the first time so you don't cripple your box, and there's an option to have it validate stuff and an option to hide Microsoft apps - if you combine the two the list will become significantly shorter).

KFS1, what you just wrote is basic knowledge for me. At most during a campaign, I've reached a TOM of over 24.000 under a time span of 1.5 months and basically playing nonstop.

People that complain, no offense, claim they've done everything in their power, yet some aren't aware of the QoS mentioned as an example.

It leads me to the conclusion that either people aren't very knowledgeable regarding various settings and/or don't bother reading up on the guides in this very forum.

Perhaps it could help to update the guides too be even more informative and easy-to-use, or simply highlight it in pink so people can't miss it I don't know.

I'm back...lol

But what seems to have fixed it was to undo everything listed in this thread. Basically I 'reset' my router and left everything at default and presto I am back in playing w/o CTHLs.

Really,

I get CTHL every hour or so spent in game spawned. I can sit on the menu all day but if I'm spawned for more then an hour "generally" that's when CTHL pops up. I have no connection issues on other programs or games. Infact I only started having CTHL after the last update, therefore leads me to beleive it's a software issue

KFS1, it's even possible to build a CTHL Backup System Using STOs?

One of the most frustrating things for many players when they get an expensive tank, is the fact of losing an expensive piece of equip, due to a CTHL or CTD.

I wonder if the STOs can be used to reserve that vehicle for 15 minutes in the same spot of terrain, until the player joins again to the game.

Other MMOGs have similar functionality when you loose connection...

Your vehicle can keep in the same place, and being afected by damage, like the UMS... but at least a player has a chance to recover his gamming session in the place where he was with the vehicle/infantry that he had.

Many people don't multicrew, due to the fact of doubling the risk of CTHL... two players, two chances...

This line of development is related with the long time expected "joing in flight" and "poly crew". So the code done in this area, may be will be very reusable.

This is also a feature that navy guys will love, and they didn't got any improvement in his gameplay for ages. This is better than nothing, since destroyers are de best consumers of long-sorties in multicrew!.

Now that is the suggestion of the centry. I often don't even bother wasting my time with the Navy ships because I know for a fact that after a hour I'll receive a CTHL. That's also one of the reasons no one will even bother to pull supplies from long distances, they know CTHL will get them and waste whatever it is they pulled. We need the opinion of KFS1 about the technical complexity of this...

He is only one person for all the hard work in the server side, related with the possible implementation of this feature. He knows... the pros and cons.

No, your WWIIOL connection is simply the first victim of the outage. I would recommend you start with your ISP, "Every time I am playing a particular online game, you guys drop my connection.

When a connection fails, the game automatically (and silently) tries to reconnect 3 times before telling you that your connection was lost.

If you are not using the Netcode2 option (first page of in-game settings), then you are using ports 27015-27021 TCP (info for your ISP). If you have checked that option, then you are also using UDP.

Okay so then what's the explanation for when the game world server goes CTHL, yet the chat server is still just fine allowing you to continue to communicate on all channels to anyone & everyone? That is 99% of my specific CTHLs...albeit I am pleased how infrequently it does happen now-a-days. (Yeah, now watch, I probably just jinxed myself w/ this post)

I just bought this game last night and cannot stay connected more than 3 to 5 minutes. I have tried everything from Opening Ports 27015-21 to Disabling my Firewall and OSSC thingy. This is very frustrating to a new player who just paid 19.99 for Nothing.

I play two other Online games with no issues at all so not sure what else the problem could be?

I also ran the Checknet thing and it ran fine:

I tried this game 7 years ago when it first came out and the server problems drove ALOT of us away. I truly hope this isnt still the issue.

Since I deinstalled the "QoS Packet Scheduler", I'm having CTD every 10-15 minutes, I'm gonna now try to reinstall it but I wanted you to know.

Got a CTD just now, "Out of memory" this time (i got 3.2 Go). What's going on? I haven't changed anything, apart the QOS thing, and I got like 15 CTD just today.

Same issue, however i have a disconnected host alot after death, or loads of ETs killing spawns. I am going to test the game with port forwarding and see if it is the problem. Error 10050 i believe it said.

It basically seems the client cant reconnect with the host, then reloading the game shows locked sides to join. I usually have to do it a couple times before reconnecting.

This never used to be the issue back in 2006, so this might be something new with the new features.

I get CTHL all the time after starting to play again on my new win7 i7 860 pc with 8gb ram and gtx260. Conn is 10/10Mbit.

I tried every combination in settings/prefs and turned off everything else running, seached forums etc..

I usually get CTHL after less than 5 min of play, but I can also get it without even spawning in ! if I just wait long enough at the selection screen.

This checknet output is probably a bad sign, might be my ISP ? any suggestions ?

CTHL been plaguing me for over a month now.

Air is the worst, Fighter sweeps or mass bomber runs = CTHL every time.

Most Para missions CTHL also.

Rarely happens when I am in armor.

Tried all manner of setting changes, disabled virus and firewall, still CTHL.

It is rapidly becoming a game breaking issue for me .

Win 7 64 Ultimate

8 GB DDR3

AMD quad core Phenom

Asus 9800GTX+ DK Edition
