Have occasionally gotten a cthl after dieing. It drops me to desk top, when reloading gives me cthl warning, reload second time says to check my fire wall settings, all since this patch.

Beta gave same "check firewall settings" warning also, thought it was due to the server it was on.

I've also had this "check firewall settings" after coming back from a CTHL since 1.29. I simply click on it and everything loads up normally. Has nothing to do with my settings and is very similar to what we saw in beta.

Sounds like the standard procedure when you get a CTD. I used to not get CTDs anymore but since 1.29 I get it at times straight after I've despawned.

To avoid that extra cthl and random popup you can press alt+f4 the second time you're loading the game when it has reached "connecting to chat".

After that you can start normally.
