We have seen a lot of reports of "falling through the earth" (or ground if you prefer) but as is normal from in game .reports, details are light to non existent and we'd like to be able to help the coders to track it down with a start point, something, anything really.

So, if you have this happen ... give us the following:

1. Can you replicate it offline at all ? This is important to determine if it is online only or not.

2. Where were you ? Spawning into a building that has a floor ? Was it when you ran out of the building onto the "ground" ? Details are important.

3. What vehicle were you in ? Or is it just an infantry thing ?

4. Were you somwhere that has identifiable similarity to somewhere else it happened ? Like, was it on an airfield ? Along a terrain tile seam ? <- you can see these if you look for them hard enough. Basically, what can you find that is the same every time it happens ? Looking for the continuity that tells us what it isn't as much as what it is.

5. FPS feedback ? Was your FPS especially low ? Low spike to single digits ?

We really want to take a serious rake through the code for this, but with a million acres of farm and only 1 or 2 rakes, we need a better idea where to start raking.

I'm pretty sure this bug is at least partly related to falling through earth (multiple layers of flashing textures): http://forums.battlegroundeurope.com/showthread.php?t=255377

I've deployed/pushed ATG on perfectly flat ground and started to sink into the ground where this flashing textures bug occur. Once back on "solid" ground there is no problem any more... if you make it there.

I did .report and area outside of an FB last night but it was a blatant gap in the terrain section... hasn't happened to me other than that instance.

I don't have the names of all the places but it seems every time this has happened to me is either when I'm crawling through bushes or I'm on the intersection of 4 different tiles or on the very point of a hill peak (3 or 4 'hard corners' radiating down and away from position). Sorry I don't have more than that.

Its where 2 tiles hit each other.

I fell through the ground at the start of a hill

You had like 1 tile \ and 1 _ and i fell down there with my laffy.

First time i fell through ground with a laffy though .. and this time it wasnt because of lag.

If you have extreme lag you can fall through ground too but this time it was just normal and then i fell through the earth and exploded totally.

Also the atgs i was towing stayed above the ground.

I've fallen through Breda twice. Once a 2-3 weeks ago was at the northern end of town leaving a building going into a street, the second was yesterday leaving a rubble/building into a street in the center part of town. Both times I didn't do the classic freefall, I only fell about 7 feet and I could run around under the city looking up people's skirts.

It used to happen to me mostly on paradrops with lots of people. I would jump and land through the earth.

Since i got a new computer it stopped.

Only explanation i can think of is that it doesn't render the ground collider in time.

And today stepping out of the AB infantry spawn at Rochefort I fell through to my death. It was accompanied by a minor lag/fps spike.

A have had this happen to me probably 10 times of so over the last 2 years including this map, this is what I have seen about it from those times:

1) usually even if I go to exactly the same spot I can not replicate it in-game at least twice it was noticeably at a spot where 2 ground tiles meet.

2) it has always been while moving across terrain (both jogging and crawling) once was in a city/town the rest out in the field on open ground one was at the apex of a hill crawling.

3) it was always as inf (but i play inf 99% of the time so I am bad test case for this ;-)

4) I have always assumed (not the safest thing) this it was a tile junction that was not rendering as connected for me. I have been to the exact spot that a squadmate fell through and not been able to do it so I always figured it was occurring to the individual and not a host side thing. In all occasions but one I died instantly the other time I dropped down into blackness but got the headshake if I tried to stand up. I was fine health wise and could see myself on my map but could not seem to get out of my black box

5) all the times I can remember my fps was fine, half the time there was no one around so it was very good. I never remember any lag spikes, stutter or the such preceding my demise.

Hope this helps and I will report all this next time it happens.

Happy bug hunting

BTG

I'll do my best to replicate my episode. It was incredibly entertaining. It may have something to do with timing - Spawning in while buildings are crumbling. I spawned into an AB barracks and went right thru... no steps.

While underground, I could walk anywhere, but when I went thru walls my screen went black. as long as you stay outdoors, you can see everything that is going on (ground floors of buildings only)

I got a couple of amazing screenshots - a brilliant sapping scene w/ flying tank and sapper... a flying Vicky thru binoculars

Dont know if bullets do anything because I never shot my gun...

Every time it has occured to me it has usually been down to some form of non rendering due to a high population. eg whenever my fps is below 18 ish i can usually gaurantee ill start to fly like the angels under the earth.

I had this in Spa just recently. There was a pretty high population at the time. I was spawning in at the barracks.

I've not tried to replicate this offline.

Ciney around 2 weeks ago. Fell through the earth at the bright patch everytime I tried to get to ciney. It looked like the whole terrain tile was moved a bit. Despawning didnt help, the bright patch would be still be there. Only restart of the game. Both accounts had the same issue at the same time. (though one was seeing much less vegetation then the other). Again the population at that time (and at that place) was extremely high.

I'd like to ask that with the v1.30 OPEN BETA underway could we again have all instances of "falling through the earth at spawn in" reported here, with logfiles too please as these will help us to track down the cause.

It's always best if you exit the game immediately if this probalem occurs so that the logfile will have the last event close to the bottom where it's easier to locate the relevent data.

Remember that logfiles are now saved in your My Documents directory in the Battleground Europe: TEST folder.
