On screen messages cause freeze

Played last night no CTD.

Today I have CTDed about 5 times. Twice allied had captured a CP in Vireaux, once in Ciney. Message saying A facility in Vireaux has been captured = CTD. Oddness.

CTD when becoming mission leader.

CTD when receiving message = Enemy forces spotted near Rochefort.

I had the same issue on the open beta. Turn off the alerts, they screwed things up for me. It could not be replicated on other pc's, I think it has something to do with the client pc as well.

What are your specs and settings?

Thanks for the reply have turned alerts off and will try things out.

AMD Phenom 2 940

4gb Ram

ATI 4870 1GB running 1900 x 1200 8.12 drivers

Auzentech prelude 7.1

Killer Nic tried with app and game mode

Win XP sp3

Not crashed since turning off alerts! Annoying now I can't tell which brigade is in a town :(.

When a capture message appears, my system freezes for a second or two, but does not crash, so i think it is triggering something, that for some ppl results in a crash for others just a temp freeze etc...

Hmm ok so I have uninstalled, wiped the registry and deleted all but the keymaps in Document and settings and reinstalled again. No more CTD! Yay! Strange that the shortcut points to the uninstaller and the install log....

Get graphical glitches now - flickering textures now and again.

Fingers crossed that I can play without CTD :)

Is anyone with a NVIDIA card getting a freeze like lexter (or me or tettie)? Cause it looks to me its only ATI people suffering from this.

I had the screwed up flags before this patch now I have random screwed up gfx and normal flags.

gfx.jpg

Haven't been able to capture corrupted gfx but may post a shaky cam when it happens next time!

Doesn't always happen. When it does it looks like random texture files (inf model, building tiles etc..) flickering and occasional freezing. Haven't pinned it down to anything specific yet.

Yeeouch.

Video card looks to be overheating. Check your case for dust and working fans.

Fan is working and no dust, didn't happen before patch... Only happens in wwiionline :P

Seriously all other games have no problems at all. LOTRO, iracing, Red Orchestra, TF2, Black Shark, KOTOR....etc....

Did you overclock RAM on your 4870?

Well taht is odd. We've got that card and not seeing it so let's try a few things (we'll try the reverse in house).

- set your settings to best performance and restart

- could literally be corrupted data, is you have the latest full installer then do a full reinstall

- what driver version?

Thanks for your help... much appreciated.

Driver version = 8.12

I have done a full clean install and wiped registry of all things CRS before hand.

Trying it out on best performance.

Have to stress that I haven't had this corruption since I first posted... which is annoying and gratifying at the same time! Seemed to happen in certain towns but at random game time lengths.

Will report back.

Ok let's keep this on target.

"On screen messages cause freeze"

Ticketed.

What's common in your systems?

We're going to try and replicate on an ATi card. Wonder if ti is also an AMD issue. Get me some sys specs guys.

Weird. Just realized that the biggest drops (down to 2-5fps) happen every single time a system message drops in, like facility taken, incoming contact report, new ml, etc.

Why would that have anything to do with it?

This was posted by flinflon in the MAC forums, looks related. He has an Intel MAC with ATI card.

Intel and Nvidia gfx (9800 GT x2 in SLi)

I get a little jerk (no, that's I GET a little jerk ;))

How bad it is might be to do with how long the message is ... I only seem to notice when a particularly long message is displayed, but I think all on screen mesages might cause a (shorter) pause. I remember "The Enemy has captured a facility in Ijzendijke" causing one yesterday (I thought the game was going to CTD ... but it did not).

I'll try and remember to notice what happens with other (and shorter) messages.

(I also get quite a long pause when I despawn - before the "Mission Results" Screen is displayed ... I do not remember that from 1.29 - Sorry to be off topic ;))

I had not experienced this until yesterday. Neither my xp or visit installs do this.

This weekend I've been using win7 and I am seeing a definate freeze when mission orders are posted, flag cap warnings or when I get handed ML.

All 3 OS' on the same box, both vista and winxp running the latest (1.85.85) vid drivers.

The only drivers difference between the 3 OS' is I have not loaded the drivers for my plantronis dsp headset into win7 yet.

For me the feeeze seems to come with the sound assigned to the popups.

I'll have to see if the plantronics driver/software will load on win7, I had to sorta fool vista into takeing it.......

E2160 1.8ghz OCed to 2.35ghz

9600gt-1.85.85 version driver

2 gigs ram

win7 32 bit

Plantronics dsp headset (primary sound device)

OK, can not update the dsp 500 driver as it comes up as only a win xp driver.

I may dig out a set of speakers and check this with the onboard sound though I'll prolly need to update that as well....

And I may be barking up the wrong tree all together.
