Keys not working for external programs, such as TS while in game.

Just wondering if anyone else is getting this issue or if someone knows how to correct it.

I usually use the Left Control Key for my push to talk button when I use TeamSpeak. Also have a button on my joystick that emulates that keypress for flying. I can pull up TS and key up with either the keyboard key or the the designated JS button and I can talk to others no problem. Once I load up BGE and am in the game, I can still hear others talk on TS, but now neither of the keyboard key or the JS button will key it up to let me talk.

Similar instance with Track IR. I have two buttons on my JS programmed to emulate buttons on the keyboard. One is "n" to allow the free look and enables my Track IR to start allowing me to look around with Track IR. The other button is set to emulate the F12 key which is the default for re-centering the Track IR. The "n" works to let me look around, but the F12 will not re-center while in game. If I go out of game it works fine, both on the JS and keyboard.

I have remapped it trying to use other keys for both all with the same result, not working once I log into the game. It was working perfect prior to the update to 1.30.

Any ideas or suggestions? I have even gone back and unistalled the game and re-installed it. Have not tried unistall/re-install for TS and Track IR yet, but that was my next thing to try. Something tells me that won't fix it either.

Run as administrator if you're using Vista.

Just right click on your teamspeak icon or whatever and it'll be in the slide down panel options.

I've seen reports but unable to confirm. I do need more information. Great first report. Thank you.

I'd like you to try a test for me.

- launch game

- go to keymapper

- on general tab set "show cursor" to "left alt" (default) and also "joystick 6"

I used this test to try and replicate awaht you are posting here and it is working for me.

I need to find a test of what you are doing that is not working for me. Also need you OS. Gonna try the TS thing now as you have it set up. We'll see...

If you turn off the JS button does it work?

Is the js button set to emulate that key in some other device manager? Which one?

If you uninstall and unplug the js does the issue persist?

Unable to replicate:

- launch TS

- join "WWIIOL - Trainers" channel

- set transmit to L-alt

- launch game online

- spawn in

- use l-alt to communicate on TS

What am I doing different?

What are you doing different? (custom keymaps?)

GOPHUR,

Just got a chance to read your posts in the forum, oh how work gets in the way. I will try the things you have listed and repost as soon as I can. May be a day or so due to work.

Thanks for checking into it.

GOPHUR,

I just typed a long response to some of your questions and some other things I have done since first posting, but it did not post and I lost it. Have to go to work for now, but will re-type it later. Further tests, still no solution to this point.

GOPHUR,

I will try this again. First some background info for ya. I recently upgraded my system just prior to the change to 1.30. OS Vista 64, Intel i7 920, 6Gb of Corsair Dominator memory, and XFX 285 GTX XXX card. I put in these upgrades during 1.29 and everything seemed to be working normally as it was prior to the upgrades. After 1.30 I was attempting to talk to squaddies on TS and would not get a response. At first I thought it was a mic or headset issue, but then noticed my Track IR re-center key was not working either. At first I thought it may be Vista 64 but I could talk and re-center using the same keys on the keyboard or the ones I had emulated on the JS, as long as I was not in game.

I reinstalled the game, Track IR, and TS software thinking that maybe something went wrong on the first install. These re-installs yielded no solutions to the problems at hand.

I use a Thrustmater Cougar JS, Foxys software for the programming of the emulation, and the Cougar Control software to load the profiles to the JS. Just to note that Foxys does not run while I play, it is just the software to program the button assignments and/or macros. The Cougar Control software is pulled up and only used to calibrate the JS and load the profiles I have set to the stick. I have tried running it without the Cougar Control pulled up and still the same thing.

I have done some tests and noticed that if I ALT-TAB out of the game to either the desktop or one of the two programs(TS , Track IR) the keys and JS buttons will work to activate them. I tried using TS with COD WAW and can still use it with the same push to talk button as I use for BGE and it works while in game. This is what leads me to believe it is BGE game related. I then went back to BGE and it would NOT work. As soon as I start to load BGE the TS stops responding to the push to talk button.

I have not loaded the 1.30 patch onto my other system yet because I rarely use it to play. However when I have a moment, I plan on doing that, so I can see if I have the same problem and maybe detemine if it is localized to my one computer or not. Also going to try it with my laptop that also runs Vista 64.

Will update you on any further progress in this matter.

Thanks for looking into it.

Further update:

I brought my laptop to work with me that also uses OS Vista 64. I have no joystick attached to it and have no major changes to the keymap. I have determined that it is not localized to my one desktop PC. My laptop is doing the same exact thing. TS works fine with push to talk, but as soon as I hit the shortcut on the desktop to start up BGE, the button for push to talk stops activating TS.

I do not use my laptop all that much for playing, but it too had been working fine before 1.30 with the use of TS.

Could it be something with my old .cfml files for the keymapper or possibly just something coded in when the game begins not allowing these keys to remain functional. It almost seems as though the game takes priority over the keys not allowing them to reach or be active for the external/ secondary programs.

I am going to try remapping these particular keys to another function I use in game and see if they still work for in game procedures. Another interesting thing is that I can run FRAPS and the F9 key works to activate it. Tried that last night after loading up newest version. Weird???

This was happening to me with Vista Ultimate 32bit. Do like the other poster said and set your TrackIR and TS to run as administrator and it fixes the problem.

The funny thing is tho, with 1.29 I didnt have to set those programs to run as admin and they just worked with the game. For some reason, 1.30 takes over the PC keyboard and doesnt allow other programs to use the keys unless those other programs are "run as Administrator" set. I am thinking its probably the alt-f4 fix, that is causing the issue.

However, this workaround of right clicking your external programs and setting the "run as administrator" does work.

Again, XP users do not have this problem, only Vista users. I reported this problem in beta with TrackIR keys not working. Really thought I was going to have to go back to xp until I found the work around.

Alphie, I tried your suggestion and both seem to be operational now. The weird thing is that I actually tried that before when the other poster mentioned it and I could not get it to work then. The last time I right clicked, went into properties, advanced and checked "run as Administrator" and could not get it to work. I may have missed hitting apply which could have been why, not sure?

This time I just right clicked and hit Run as Admin in the drop down and it worked. Went back to the first above way mentioned, made sure I hit apply after and now both are set and working. I guess it just took your blessing to work right for me Alphie, LOL.

Whatever it does it frees the keys back up, WOOT!!!! I was actually thinking I may have to go back to XP myself. Thanks for the help.

Ahhhhh, well that explains why I did'nt gte this bug.

One of the 1st things I did after installing vista (and win7) was hunt down and neuter that UAC program.
