If you sprint while raining and look left or right, you get a clear (no rain) patch of sky in a straight line up and down in the centre of your vision - the faster you run the more pronounced the 'gap' in the rain is.

Looks like the rain texture planes are parallel to the users direction of movement rather than his/her point of view!

When running the opel around the Spa circuit in rain, I noticed that in certain directions there were "holes" in the rain. It looks like the rain is on screens around you and the screens don't meet up properly:
