Update download through playgate insanely slow #2881

Why is the download speed in playgate limited at such low speeds? I was going to try beta and needed to update ti .37 from .36. The update is just 19MB. It looks like it would've taken 20-30 minutes to get it through the auto updater. I canceled after it had not even downloaded 10% after 5 minutes, went to http://installers.wwiionline.com and manually DLed the update in 24 seconds with IE8.

Something have to be wrong...

Dunno, this was reported fixed but probably got rolled back in a recent fubar of the playgate.

I'll reopen ticket.

Not for me, never managed to get any update via Playgate from any version so far, I always have to update manually.

Fixed .40 and .41

Not fixed for me, no difference to previous playgate versions. Manual download of the patches is way faster.

OK when I start Playgate and the server has a never version than my client, Playgate looks for the Patch, finds the Patch, then connects to the download server, tries to start the download and then suddenly aborts saying that the connection to the download server failed.

This has happened to me since the very first beta versions of 1.31 (with the new Playgate).

When I upgraded .40 on PC (tried both platforms Wed), it found the new patch and D/L the 10MB file in less then 2 min.

Make sure you're using the Test Online shortcut that goes to the beta Playgate, not the Play Online one that goes to live.

Well, I'd have to look at your Documents\Battleground Europe\ftplog.txt

You may want to strip out your IP "LocalIP=[*.*.*.*]" if it's not 192.168.* or 10.*

No it's not fixed.

Downloaded those 13mb and 10mb patches and they were taking 5 - 10 mins when they should have taken 15 seconds or so. Of course from the ftp browser index it downloads pretty quick.

Do you mean Documents\Battleground Europe TEST\ ???

No such file exists in the mentioned folder...

Or Documents\Battleground Europe\ ??

In my standard, NON beta folder I found this file.

Again, make sure you're using the "Test Online" 1.31.0.40 Beta Playgate located in \Battleground Europe TEST\ and not the 1.30.3.255 Live "Play Online" Playgate located in \Battleground Europe\.

With 1.31.0.40 Beta Playgate I get the same speed downloading via Playgate as I do off the FTP. Now, admittedly, my DSL isn't the fastest, but it's still a big improvement.

In my standard, NON beta folder I found this file.

Here is what it says:

That's the one.

It's showing that the FTP server didn't have the patch.

Now, there's no date in that file, so I don't know if the patch just wasn't up yet, or if you have a proxy that's caching the FTP badly.

In your Program Files\Battleground Europe TEST\ folder there's a file "manifest" that if opened in a text editor will say "1.31.0.41" (with no quotes in the file). If you give Playgate a manifest file with 1.31.0.40 in it, it will think you have .40 and try to download .41 for you.
