Need Test - Replicate Pixel of Death in Lille #4054

I cant find the old "gas leak" pizel of death thread so I'm creating this new one.

As it's established how to trigger a type of "Pixel of death" in 1.30 I went out to test it in beta. I picked a random location where I could find a terrain tile join with a spawn close. I found a AB in Lille with a tile join close.

This bug is still there in 1.31 beta.

You die if you:

-Crawl as infantry along a tile join.

-Go prone exactly over a terrain tile join and rotate body left and right over the join.

-Sometime you don't even have to move. You die just sitting there in prone position.

Can someone guess there the terrain join is in this picture?

Edit:

This is a screen shot of the same bug from February on the live server where I died RUNNING straight across a terrain tile join:

In the first picture you can see that the ground (cobblestone or whatever) texture is rotated 90 degrees from one tile to the next.

Can't tell about the grass one.

Don't know if that is significant or not.

Ya know, at first Romsburg, you rubbed me the wrong way and I wasn't a fan. But over the past 12 months, you have really grown on me. You're precise, well spoken and although you are sometimes a little harsh, you are most often correct and in proper context with your responses.

Unable to replicate. What's different? I was offline. What's your sys spec?

I can replicate this on most seams in Beta, not all but most. Some takes just a few seconds to trigger and on other seams I have to work a little. Some seams seems "safe".

On terrain seams I usually can see the seam itself as a white line. Some seams are very clear (while line) and others are almost invisible (no white line). It seems like there is a tiny space of "nothing" between seams. I've noticed that if I fire my rifle exactly at the seam there is no bullet impact mark on the ground.

The only pattern I see so far is that "wider" seams seems to trigger this bug more easily.

Am I clipping into ground somehow?

System:

Windows 7 64Bit

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

4GB RAM

ASUS Nvidia GF8800GTS (cant get driver version from here but drivers are fairly new. I updated them when there was the normal maps transparent walls bug in beta)

I can update with more info in ~3 hours if needed.

You can hear at the end there like he's stuck in the ground. If you fall through some crevice in a building it sounds like that.

EDIT: yes I was able to replicate it at a few spots along the seam by crawling. In fact it seems to happen anywhere along the whole damn seam.

OK, I spawned offline in the same area in 1.30 and crawled along the same seam. Instead of dying, the avatar just bumps up and down and makes a thump sound as when falling from a small height. But I didn't die when crawling on top of the seam in 1.30.

Online or Offline makes no difference for me with this bug.

Here's a video i recorded in february on a spot in valenciennes (IIRC) where you easily die just running around on top of the seam. This is from offline mode and I posted this video in the "gas leak" thread that I can't find in this forum any more.

  • 2 weeks later...

just tested this in v1.31.0.40

on my rig, impossible to replicate

please test and see if you can on yours

keep in mind that if it takes a herculean effort of trying to make it happen in order to replicate this, that reduces it's issue somewhat if simply walking over it doesn't replicate the issue

i mean, yeah it's still an issue if you can do it but if it takes real solid effort to do so and casually strolling/crawling over it doesn't trigger it then it's kind of not a BIG issue anymore

I gave this 10 minutes at Lille East Army base where I in 1.31.0.38 and 1.30 live can replicate this bug as fast as it takes to spawn, run to the seam, go prone and crawl 5 meters.

It looks to me like it's been fixed in 1.31.0.40, at least at Lille East AB. I don't time to test at all other places I found it (don't remember them all anyway) but the seam at Lille East Armybase is the best place to test (easy test that never fails) that I've found so it looks good to me.

Was the fix just related to the seam at Lille or was this some more global/engine type fix?

I was able to SUCCESSFULLY replicate this issue. .38

(took a little more effort then it seemed, but doable and consistent).

After installed .40, could not replicate.

I call FIXED!
