Rain occurs at different time for Macs #4059

While in beta today I noticed I had no rain while others did, and BLOO came to my position and stood next to me and he saw rain while I didn't. It was cloudy, though.

Later, while talking with AHWULF it seemed to be that he and I (both Mac users) saw rain while everyone else didn't, and they saw rain when we didn't.

romz you['re] my damn hero

Ya know, at first Romsburg, you rubbed me the wrong way and I wasn't a fan. But over the past 12 months, you have really grown on me. You're precise, well spoken and although you are sometimes a little harsh, you are most often correct and in proper context with your responses.

I can't say [any]thing else [than] that the ban was justified considering that you have an 'impressive' TOS history....

Think it might of being a server issue, later on i was getting odd rain behaviour (PC), then server crashed not lag after that, and the game was getting laggy as hell, on the run up to the server crash.

Yeah let's keep an eye out for this. I don't want to say this is a sure bug yet.

Happened again last night. Everyone else saw rain, I didn't.

I had the same experience last night Romzburg. Grey skies, thunder, people in chat talking about the rain but nothing on my screen.

ETA: I'm using an Alienware m17x laptop, Win7 64 bit Ultimate.

Yep going by the chat from last nights (wed) stress test, it would appear that Macs are seeing rain at diff times.

During the Piesport beta stress test last week(?) Ahwulf and I saw it at the same time as each other, but at a different time from everyone else. And when everyone else saw it, we didn't.

This recent stress test I never saw it, but I was not online for as long this time, so I may have logged off before the Mac rain cycle began. (If indeed there is a Mac timing issue....)

The problem is the random routine on the mac returns different values than the PC routine does, so the "times" you see in the chat are different, and thus the rain falls at a different time. I bet its not opposite but just two random streams which sometimes are together and sometimes not. The fact that someone reported this on Win7 is interesting.

So its in the client?

Seems like this would be a Server tracked function.

In fact, I can't see how a client-side random routine would work at all!

I must be missing something important.

Maybe a brane.

I *think* the server sends a random seed to the client, which causes a random number generator to create a set of rain on/rain off marks from the seed.

Then again I have no source here so I might be dreaming.

Typical Mac users. So damn smug they have to have their own weather patterns.

Steve decides when it should rain for us, and Steve know best, because He is Steve.
