I'm not a computer guy so if this question is extremly funny due to the stupidity I completly understand.

My computer is a couple years old so I figured Id try open beta for a bit during last intermission to make sure I could still play it.

Turns out the game crashes to desktop after about a minute being in game or not and it is extremly glitchy.

I will list my specs and maybe you guys could tell me what I need upgraded?

Im sure I can find the requirements somewhere but I'll probably misinterpret them.

Anyway according to the "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" my specs are as followed:

Windows Visita Home Premium

Processor: Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU E2160 @ 1.80GHz (2CPUs) , ~1.8GHz

Memory: 2814MB RAM

Page File: 1265MB Used, 4583MB Available

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / NVIDIA nForce 630i

Approx Total Memory: 1401MB

Again I'm really bad with computers so any help you could give to the newb would be appreciated.

my eyes.. they are watching your CPU.

1.8 is weak sauce.

So I should look for what part for my computer exactly?

The processor is weak - this game is very CPU intensive

but your graphics card is underpowered too

you could probably get a Geforce 9 or some sort for pretty cheap. like a 9600

Getting a better graphics card won't do much without getting a new cpu as well. You will most likely need to upgrade both. Question is what your motherboard supports and if it's worth upgrading instead of getting a completely new system.

So Im guessing it will just be simpler if I just get a new rig?

It depends what kind of system you want. If you upgrade your CPU to the state of the art stuff you need a new motherboard as well. Which means new RAM and probably a new power supply. If you also upgrade your graphics card there really isn't much else left to upgrade, so buying a new rig will be simpler. Upgrading might be cheaper though.

A faster Intel Dual Core with a mid-range graphics card might do the trick if your motherboard supports the CPU.

The best thing is probably if you describe what you want - which games do you want to play at what quality-settings/resolutions and what's your budget.

Take a look at the old post where Gophur listed a nice $500 box. Or if you prefer to buy something ready made, look for something similar. I bought an Asus or Acer (always forget which) with a quad CPU and some kind of NVidia GT220 pretty cheap, though you can get more for your money if you put it together ala Gophur but that requires a willingness to twiddle with hardware.

For sure whatever you buy has the following, Intel Core 2 Duo (or even better Intel i5 or i7), 2.4Gz or better, a recent vintage 512MB video card, at least 4GB ram, and Win 7. That would do nicely.

Yes I the Mac guy but not completely clueless about PCs!

You could save a little money with an AMD processor too, but the code is slightly more optimized for Intel (we use an Intel compiler to build the client).

ALso note that the most recent build B39 is dramatically faster on lamer video cards than the previous ones. However that 7xxx one is more than lame.

first thing would be to make sure you ahve allt he latest drivers for all of your hardware. ok the rig is not top notch but you should still be able to get into the game and play. even if you get low FPS.

when was the last time you upgraded the driver for your hardware?

upgrade the

Graphics card drivers

sound card drivers

motherboard(chipset) drivers.

get latest download for your operating system.

also you could try going into windows task manager and switching off ALL the programs running in the background you don't need right then (they will start up again when you next re-boot. It's possible a piece of software may be conflicting with WWIIonline.

also before you go into the game go into the games setting menu (its in the start/programs/crs

you may have something switched on that your PC or graphics card cant do, like water reflections or a high resolution etc. update all your drivers and run on the lowest possible graphic and sound settings. then start increasing and switching 1 thing on at a time.

I think your going to want to upgrade. The CPU and GPU are below spec so that probably means a whole upgrade.

I've published a $500 and a new $600 build. If you need something built for you drop me an email gophuratplaynetdotcom and I'll see if I can work something for your budget.
