OK guys this is try at your own risk, I've not ran it past the rats.

Open my documents, open your battleground europe test folder.

Find the wwiiol xml document, right click it and select edit.

Now find this line

value name="app.b3dsoundenable" type="long" value="0"

Change "long" to "bool".

So it should now read

value name="app.b3dsoundenable" type="bool" value="0"

(red text is my addition purely to highlight changes)

Now change the "0" to "true".

So now it should read

value name="app.b3dsoundenable" type="bool" value="true"

Save and exit the editor. Start up the game and you should have 3d/hardware sound and be able to change from hardware to software to disabled.

The "long" appears to be a missprint that needs to be "bool".

I'm gonna bump this as it seems to have worked for some of us.

Seems fixed for me as of .45.

I even deleted the xml and then, after running the out of game settings (res, sound card), I loaded up the game and selected hardware sound. Reloaded the game and the setting stayed set for hardware and I had 3d sound same as in 1.30.

I checked the newly created xml and it was worded correctly with "bool" and "true" in the 3dsound entry.
