So using a program to calibrate/bump up gamma on your monitor is all right but if you manually do it yourself it is a gamma cheat?

Do you honestly think "calibrate" means "change gamma"?!

There are about 10 different, distinct steps to calibrate a monitor properly, including brightness, contrast, luminance for red, green & blue (separately), color temperature, native and target white points....

It ain't just "slide yer gamma doohickey".

A normal sunny day in the beta is perfect. When clouds come in it is pitch dark, like the worst ever storm is about to hit. I hope this get fixed, it is really awkward.

My mate frapped me while shooting down a 109, it almost feels night but was around 1400 hours server time.

The laughing is me, i really enjoyed the new effects as you can hear :)

On top of this... I've noticed the sky begin to flicker off an on, almost like a strobe light. Changes from pitch black displaying nothing at all on the screen but your gun or the walls of a vehicle to very bright light.

Bright is right...

Overcast lacks contrast a bit, a bit too dark still... (as of.44)

Night is better than 1.30 and that is fine, lemme twist this around:

You find night too bright? You an elite l33t killor who likes darkness? Turn GAMMA DOWN!!!!

There, now you have it all dark for you, while the rest of players are having fun playing...

Think this will come down to too many personal preferences, i would just leave it and let very one adjust it to what they like.

tuff call here, for my 2 cents the sun is to big in the sky and makes to much glare .... all you need to do is look in its direction (not just lookin up) ..better lighting on the ground during bad weather would help

trying to stay realistic here because weather, and night time makes it harder to see anyway you look at it (which is sometimes already hard in this game) but i would still rather have rain, thunder, lighting(wink) than not at all . just keep the best lighting for most of the time and tweak th rest.

I think this is very subjective.

Most people take it for granted that the monitor they are using is properly claibrated. Most LCD monitors are factory set and this is just not perfect for all the variables when viewing your monitor. Here are some BIG influences on color, contrast, brightness and gamma: Lighting in the room (a cave would be perfect senario,)the capabilities of the monitor itself and the video card. These three variables can greatly influence what you see! So check your monitor and see what kind of adjustments are on it, then check to see if your video card is "corrected" for gama and color and indirect lighting that does not compete with your monitor and strain your eyes is best.

So many times people complain of eye strain and headaches while at work or at home while using a monitor. Lighting is key in helping to reduce this. the worst case I can think of is placing your monitor in front of a large window so your eyes have to strain to see the monitor... not good. Flourecent lights "flicker" or operate an cycles to light which sometimes can compete with the monitors refresh rate so I like good old light bulbs!

I have blackout curtains in my office so I can controll the lighting and I used low light level behind the monitors to help with gamma.

So adjust your lighting, adjust your monitor in conjunction with your video card to achieve correct gamma, brightness, contrast and color balance. I always use Adobe products and thier monitor claibration software is faily usefull.

I hope this points some people in the right direction. Poke around on the net and you will be amazed how many articles are written on this especially pertaining to the print industry and broadcast graphics.
