Ya know, at first Romsburg, you rubbed me the wrong way and I wasn't a fan. But over the past 12 months, you have really grown on me. You're precise, well spoken and although you are sometimes a little harsh, you are most often correct and in proper context with your responses.

I can't say [any]thing else [than] that the ban was justified considering that you have an 'impressive' TOS history....

Same.

Running 10.5

I did read in 1.30 that some people have no issue, others do.

Ollie and I tried to find a clue earlier in beta but didn't find any reason for 10.5 being different. Unlike the other bug I found only happened in 10.5 which had a file reading component (XML files weren't being read by the right library version in the older OS) this one is purely packing bits and sending it to the host, which doesn't involve the OS at all.

Why only this would be wrong and not the other 9000 client->host message would fail is still a mystery.

What triggers the error message "Submission Invalid"?

There can't be very many pathways to that in the code. That's what it says in chat when we try to make a mark: "Submission Invalid".

Can you backtrack the logic path?

The host comes back with that, but the issue is in the client, something is different somewhere between your operation on the map and when the data gets to the host. THere is nothing other than straight C++/C code in the data prep and sending of the data, and its the same code as everything else sent to the host. The question is how the OS version gets in the mix. That's the key part since it doesn't happen on 10.6 so it has to be something external to the code (in the other bug it was the xml reading library in the OS). That's what I can't find. A lot of what you do on the map goes to the host and back (making missions, picking a brigade, seeing what the bridge status is) and it all goes through the same code. Something about this has to involve an external OS related piece of code + mission leader + marking that is different than everything else you do. It the subtlest bug I've seen in the codebase.

Is it possible (or feasible) to schedule a specific time for someone at CRS to capture the packets I send in, and I could make some submissions, and you (they) could look at those packets to see what kind of gobbldeygook I am sending that makes the server say "Nope"?

I have been waiting so long for this one bug to get fixed. It never did this until last update. I get people in game screaming at me to mark and why can't I, and get a PC etc etc. It gets old!! I unsubbed once over this and still really no resolution. I mean if this were you would you pay for this CRS?

I usually do a ".makeleader" as soon as I can when I am ML. Wait till someone doers a report, then approve their report and then pass the leadership to them. Usually a player who makes reports won't mind being leader.

If I am the only one on the mission, I tell them I can't mark, it's a "game bug". Don't tell them it's a Mac bug. There are an amazing number of fools out there who will make some asinine PC comment.

I'd pay for a new OS if it were me. But I see your point.

Whatever this is it needs Ollie's help in logging the data. I don't want to keep him from getting 1.31 out the door atm.

I think I actually have the new OS sitting around here somewheres, but I also use some other software for work that would need to be upgraded, which would affect my Windows partition, and I am afraid to mess with Windows, because that's how I gets meh money from the folks down at the head office.

One weekend I should just set aside a day or two for error contigency and do it.

But I'm afraid.

I have 10.5.6. Its hardly an issue worth unsubbing over, but to each his own. I am sad to hear the new patch has a bad memory leak. I was excited to play during the stress test with more than 20 people.

You can install 10.6 on a partition and boot into that to play (ugly I know), if you want to support both. This is the only issue remaining with 10.5.x but its not something I can fix without delaying Ollie.

Fair enough Romz. I just know that we can really only afford to officially support the latest version of the Mac OS (officially).
