Infrequent but it happens mostly when there's a lot of activity around. Plenty of tags in all directions with and indication there's quite a few enemies around as well.

Exactly how many is hard to say but I've never seen it when there's just been a few players around.

Same here. I've only seen the bug during very intense fights with many players involved.

It appears that the fire effect (which is false because AA guns do not catch fire naturally) is using the firepoint (muzzle flash emitter point) at the end of the barrel and the centerpoint of the model as emitter points to attach the fire effect render.

(I hope that makes sense to at least some of you ;) )

This is at least a clue we might get you to pay attention to when you see this again.

AA guns are not modeled with "I am on fire" emitter points in their art. If the fire effect is being rendered at a point (and it has to have some point to attach to) that is not an "I am on fire" emitter point what point is it using ? This may help us track down WHY? which is the object of the excercise.

So far, we have a screenshot revealing that the fire effect is using the centerpoint of the model and the fire(muzzleflash)point at the end of the barrel. While this is false functionality is it perhaps consistant between other similar examples?

Where does that "this looks like it is on fire but it obviously isn't really" seem to be emitting from on the model? When I saw an infantry man on fire it was clearly in the torso at what one could assume was the centerpoint of the model.

More examples might help.

I've got a thought on this though it could be totaly off.

1. Atgs/aaguns and inf are occasionaly/randomly showing a "flamed" effect.

2. These units do not have this affect tied/coded to them.

3. When this 1st stared (1st 1.31? I think, best as I recall) it was aircraft showing as a flameing hulk (sto hulk but actualy had been swapped in at spawnin instead of the normal model?). Kinda like the ages old "ghosts" we used to have where you would lose connection and leave a avatar in the game world but with the twist that this time it replaced the normal "new" spawned in model.

If these units, inf/atg/aa do not have the flame effect in their code or the xyz position points in their code then it seems to me the flame effect is being tied to the persona rather then the unit........Does that make any sence at all? I'm not a coder. I have played some with effects, attach points, damage and air files in fs/cfs but that's it. Only then cause hey were plain text/numbers and or xml files. But it seems to me the only way a effect can be running on a unit that does'nt have a effect tied to it.

So, is it possibable that these instances are where a player has been flamed as a hulkable unit....aircraft/tank. Then upon respawn for some reason the game is still carrying over the effect (flamed) from the last mission? Possibably a nasty little side effect of mission pending/lost/intermittant packets?

Sooo, summed up: Is this a new incarnation of the old lost packets ghost bug?

Not actualy in the model but rather a "ghost" of the last mission following the player?

Any of this make any sence?

It was (is) very busy at Mons today and just now before logging I got the fire bug on a friendly aircraft. I noticed that there are a stragne black line/polygon artefact sometimes replacing the fire and extending out towards the edges of tyhe screen. IIRC i've seen this polygon extending out on other occations when I've had the fire bug. The "black" started to appear as I used binos in order to try to get a close-up of him.

image #1 shows the extending/warping black polygon best. See how it extend out of the screen/into the ground behind the trees.

Here are the full res screenshots from today:

Yep still seeing it, very rare though. Have only seen some tanks and/or planes with it recently, but it is very rare.

Another thing i see quite often, is black smoke of a plane crashing, the black trail of smoke is extremely long, then disappears. Just an oddity really.
