Muzzle flashes on iron sight weapons too large

They make the shooter nearly completely blind... worst case is the M10's .50... too a lessor extent with the LMG's.

Even when firing at quite large targets, you completely lose sight of them as the huge muzzle flash obscures the sight.

The flashes either need to be more transparent, or flicker more, so that you can see while firing.

Completely agree. Needs to be adjusted.

I agree, the muzzle flash needs to be fixed. Right now the flash graphic is present in every frame, it needs to only appear in 30-50% of the frames as in 1.30. Current implementation looks really weird and also obstructs vision on certain weapons.

Simple test with just in-game stuff as a reality check knowing one thing:

In RL, tracers work. Meaning that the shooter can redirect fir using tracers, otherwise THEY'D NOT EVER USE THEM.

Shoot LMG in game. Observe your tracers and correct fire.

Oh, wait, YOU CANNOT! Why? Because the muzzle flash is absurd.

Seriously, dial the flash down until tracers WORK, then you know you've got it at least within an order of magnitude. Right now, no flash at all would be better than what it is. Really.

Of all the ww2 rifles and SMGs I've shot in RL, the only one I could see ANY flash on in daylight was a Mosin Nagant, and that was virtually invisible compared to ww2ol.

If, in the ww2ol universe muzzle flashes are what they are right now, then eliminate the tracers because then in the ww2ol universe, LMG tracers only point out the shooter, and do nothing to aid the shooter. They would only have been used if there was SOME plus to using them. Right not they are 100% negative to the shooter.

I also believe the dispersion has been seriously upped for LMGs.

Shooting with tracers at 500 to 600, it's kind of pointless to even have tracers, because there is so much dispersion that any adjustment is wiped out by the randomness.

And in real life the flash is gone in a tiny fraction of a second.

In WWIIOL if you are lucky enough to get 30 fps, a flash animation that takes a few frames, or gets triggered too often means constant flash artwork, totally unlike reality.

Since the framerates and lighting conditions in the game CAN NOT replicate reality, the muzzle flash should be just done away with, or made to be exactly twice the diameter of the barrel itself.

We need a realistic OUTCOME here, not a realistic PROCESS. Do anything you want in some weird way so that the end result looks correct. Don't choose some supposedly realistic process or algorithm or system ands assume the result will be good, because the process is detailed, or logically constructed.

This is a situation where the ends justifies the means, not a situation where the means justifies the ends.

Ya know, at first Romsburg, you rubbed me the wrong way and I wasn't a fan. But over the past 12 months, you have really grown on me. You're precise, well spoken and although you are sometimes a little harsh, you are most often correct and in proper context with your responses.

I should add that I think that the inf/inf engagements I've been in with the new patch are pretty fun. I like the tracers, I even like the dispersion (I can't tell any difference FWIW). But the flash is a joke. Does the sprite have no alpha channel? Can't it be made like 90% transparent or something?

They said they did that but it looked really, really bad.

I should add that while I understand they have limitations on what happens to "look good" abstractly, it also needs to WORK, and functionality trumps looks. The current system is such that tracers simply do nothing for the shooter. Since we know this is not true in RL, that leaves 2 options, dump the tracers, or dump the 1st person flashes.

That's aside from it being entirely unrealistic.
