Critical damage AFTER despawn.

I was rolling out a bofors and heard a 111 approach so I despawned. Hit OK button just before bombs hit ground, got reserved.. but on the despawn cam I saw the vital stats go down and when I check CS&R the bomber got critical damage on me.

This does not sound right...

Of course it can be argued that it's cowardly and cheating and so on but still, I despawned before bombs hit...

Yes and you got your RTB. you shouldn't have. He killed you before you despawned but there it is.

No he didn't. At least not from my point of view.

Oh well.. it's a bug either way which was my point.

If you despawn there is a timer before you exit the game world, this is so that the shooter has at least a small opportunity to finish the job before you "escape" using a game construct which we have to have, called despawning. In real life there is no despawn to escape a situation you no longer find healthy for you.

While you wait out that timer you can be killed, wounded or damaged.

Yes, I know this.

What I'm saying is that this happened AFTER the timer had ticked down to zero, I clicked on OK and the despawn cam started rotating around, I got the message "Bofors reserved at xxxx..." in green.. THEN the bomb hit and I saw both stamina and life go down to the bottom

Iirc I didn't even get any "Crew member 1 hit in..." messages.

I wish I had taken a screenshot of it.

I've gotten killed during the despawn timer plenty of times, that's not what I'm talking about here.

Well we changed a lot of stuff in the network layer and the process of "being in the gameworld and not being in the gameworld" so yeah, no doubt things behave differently than before (that's what happens when you replace code) ... so we'll be looking for things like this and the reporting does help us in that regard.

But I have to add this caveat in this particular case. If you died as a result of something killing you that you were despawning to avoid (the bombs you spoke of) we don't really feel that's such a bad thing. You should really not have been allowed to despawn to avoid the bombs you knew were coming but there isn't any viable way to stop a person doing that to avoid death, since you must have the ability to despawn in the first place.

So the report is useful to help find bugs but not because you died trying to avoid the bombs by despawning. I think you'll grasp the distinction I tried to make there. It's like a tanker realizing he's going to be bombed when the plane is diving at him. By all rights if there were a way to stop him despawning before the bombs arrive, it would be a good thing to implemement for the gameplay, but there isn't a way to do that at this time, or probably ever.

So if the bug doesn't cause any other problems, I'd be fine with it if we couldn't fix it. ;)

But we'll investigate simply because other things may be afoot.

it is just like infantry that I have always experience

I shot him, then 1 seconds later I saw him points his gun at me, then 1 more second we both dead

this game network code seems always have 3 to 5 seconds delay especially in crowded places

there is difficulty in network module design for huge game with no instance pvp area, but the delay sometimes really icon13.gif

I generally don't do this. I take my deaths. The situation at that location though was so extreme that a bunch of us already lost our equipment while rolling out so I just thought I'd try to save the gun if I could.

It was more of a shocking surprise to see what happened. It was not what I expected. I really don't care about the death, it just didn't seem that this was what was supposed to happen.

I do remember how it was before the despawn timer, the annoyance of seeing someone, getting in position to fire and then he was gone. I definately cheered for the introduction of spawn timer so I have no problem with that whatsoever.

It was always like this. The reason is likely that the enemy sees you despawn about a second after you really do. During that second, he can still get a kill on you since it is his client that matters.

Roger that.

Also as always remember that a player getting a kill has nothing to do with the target per se. in this case you'd already been awarded your RTB code when he scored a kill. The two are not related. For instance, him getting a kill does not mean you got a KIA.
