I dropped 2 French popcorn ball grenades under the seat of a Flak 28 and it just kept firing and turning. Finally got the kill with a rifle.

Something is wrong here.

You notice the plate under the crew? That's made of metal.

Thin metal to be sure... but it doesn't take much to stop grenade fragments.

Just behind, or in front is the best idea.

You need to visualise the line-of-sight from detonation point, to the crew, and keep 'stuff' out of the way.
