Armor takes damage, causing the engine area to smoke, but did not seem to effect vehicle.

Able to start engine, drive off.

Reported by another using PC as no ill effect despite smoke.

Thats the smoke for fuel which is leaking. This is not a bug and been like this in game for along time.

Depending on how bad the leak is sooner or later you will run out of gas.
